Following the withdrawal of the final U.S. troops from Afghanistan, a non-profit group is working to rescue dozens of military dogs abandoned at the Kabul airport.
Veteran Sheepdogs of America has been tasked with the responsibility of retrieving 51 military dogs. Indeed, a photo began circulating over the weekend of several dog carriers in front of a helicopter, however those crates represent just a small portion of the total number of furry friends left behind.
Service dogs outrank their handlers for that very reason.
You learn a lot about fellow FReepers on these threads.
All you need to know, really.
I knew it...I knew it.
I just knew that OUR WONDERFUL CITIZENS OF THE USA would see this story and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
GOD be with them in their attempts to save this doggies.
Now, I can go to bed.
I’m sure the dogs are receiving more consideration there than the American civilians are.
It is awful but why are people not as upset with AMERICAN citizens who were left behind??????
What is it with people caring more about animals than their fellow human beings?
They went to hang out in Afghanistan? My sympathy levels are low.
At the end of the day, you’re an idiot.
As a combat arms guy, this is appalling.
Thanks for your service if you’ll allow an idiot to say that.
So if you believe the administration the dogs were just pets, not service dogs.
I know guys with eyes on, I’ll trust them.
I trust nothing that comes out of the clown show so I believe you.
My only point was that people wanted to risk human lives to rescue dogs. In my opinion that is never an option no matter how well trained the dog is.
We are only as good as those we look after. It’s easy to cut losses and look for the way out. Hard men know what is right and will do it no matter the cost. In this case it was helpless animals who looked to us for their care that we turned our backs on. I’d run the gauntlet for them.
Then again I’d also do it for you. It’s the calling we warriors get that never goes away. We feel responsible for those around us.
