I’m sure people from all over the SE will be loading up their trucks with new generators from Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply etc and bringing them to Louisianan to sell at 100% profit. Happened with Katrina.

Not my experience. Most people along the coast have friends and family near by. We have friends in Lake Charles which has been hit several times over the last 3 or 4 years and we've delivered fans, ac units, beer, ice, generators to be paid back when they can. Sometimes they can meet us at the state line and sometimes not. Haven't personally heard of any gouging. Even during Rita in 05, we made it up into Arkansas and people were out hustling us water, gas cans and a generator.

Liberals learned how to talk to repair people from Star Trek.

Politicians and some military officers have no clue what it takes to rebuild a power grid.

After Super Typhoon Pamela hit Guam with over 200 MPH winds, the naval commander in charge of restoring power was fired because he didn't have it done throughout the island in 2 weeks.

Not his fault, it's the nature of the beast.

Nothing left of NO after 30 days without power.

30 days without power and they will need 5,000 guardsman on the streets 24/7.

Lots of emergency food rations an water have to be sent it.

Maybe they want a catastrophe, like maybe what happened in Afghanistan was on purpose, in order to demoralize us, further weaken our confidence in our institutions, set us against each other, and by pulling it off like they just don’t care, reminding us who the boss is.

I have been watching a Louisiana community FB site and noticed that someone reported a theft of their grandmother’s generator. Can you imagine?

“Can they even get fuel for them in LA?”

*****

Lights on in your house just says you have things worth stealing, makes you a target.

If the governor isn’t satisfied he should go climb a few utility polls and start fixing wires.

Ice storm of 1998 ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_1998_North_American_ice_storm

Governors are executives. Executives are paid to be “not satisfied.” It’s a necessary part of the job function.

I am developing a new social theory, Hurricane Race Theory (HRT).

HRT postulates that hurricanes are racist because they impact the poor the most, and the poor are mostly minorities.

I am accepting contributions to right this racist weather wrong, and you are racist if you don’t give me money.

My first action to stop this racism will be to distribute a pamphlet telling people that planning ahead is not racist, and that the time to buy a generator and fuel is when the weather is good, when you don’t need it.

They learned nothing from Katrina about hardening the grid infrastructure.

Must be more of that French heritage stuff. Parishes instead of counties, civil law instead of common law, city governors…

A small generator and 50 gallons of gas could be had for about $300 a month or 2 ago.

Probably worth it's weight in gold now.

Yeah, absolutely no reason NOT to be prepaed.

I expect the New Orleans Governor (What a title!) will don some linemens boots and shinny up poles and show those utility workers how its done.

Hurricane Rita was the same, power out for weeks. It is miserable this time of year and even with a generator, we could run the frig and fans. Forget anything like a coffee pot or stove or microwave. We unplugged the frig at night long enough to cool a room down for the kids to sleep in.

I wouldn't have come home except I had an essential job at the time. Stay away if you can.
