I really wanted to be wrong, and for him to be marginally competent, or to surround himself with some smart people who knew how things worked, like Trump mostly did.
He did neither, and now we are experiencing the disaster none of us wanted.

As far as I know, Carter was never accused of sexual assault, nor being in the pocket of the Red Chinese. He may have been a terrible president, but he could at least put a sentence together.
