The U.S. military on Friday began shifting operations at Kabul’s international airport toward a final withdrawal, winding down the chaotic and bloody evacuation that airlifted more than 110,000 Americans, Afghans and others out of the country over the past two weeks.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of Afghans picked their way through the carnage left behind by the previous day’s deadly suicide bombing and gun attack outside the airport, in a last-ditch effort to flee Taliban rule. The death toll from the terrorist attack, one of the deadliest of the war, rose to nearly 200 Afghans, according to a senior health official. Thirteen U.S. service members were killed, and at least 15 were injured.
The Biden administration appeared poised to stick with its Tuesday deadline to pull the last of the nation’s forces out of Afghanistan and end the 20-year war there.
As crowds queued up in the street outside the airport in the early morning Friday, dozens of Afghan men waded through open sewers lining the street to get closer to the gates.
“There was still blood and pieces of flesh and torn-off clothes on the ground,” said a 29-year-old man who lives near Kabul airport. “People stepped on it trying to get to the airport.”
The crowd was smaller than on Thursday, with many apparently wary in the wake of the attack. Later Friday, rumors spread of another explosion, sending people running away from the airport in all directions, leaving only Taliban fighters guarding the gates, according to a shopkeeper in the area. Taliban militants have since prevented would-be evacuees from getting near the airport, several witnesses said.

But Biden will be hailed as a success cause they killed two supposedly ISIS K members.
left and media will make this the non stop story.
Well at least we got 117,000 Afghan “refugees” out along with 5,400 Americans out.
These idiots just shwacked two guys they identified as ISIS-K. An article I read earlier stated that they weren’t the guys that planned the bombings at the airport the other day.
Who is to be believed anymore?
But, I do know one thing. These idiots just set the table for another attack. Call me a pu$$y. Call me whatever you want. We don’t have he ability to counter anything they want to do. ISIS-K has a very, very, very sympathetic group of individuals surrounding the airport and protecting our assets.
The next attack doesn’t have to be sanctioned by the folks that run the Taliban. It’s just going to take a few Taliban guys to look the other way like they did the other day.
Hell, just start launching some mortars and rockets onto the tarmac, all the planes have to leave and the US forces are sitting ducks.
Then, of course, there’s nothing like having to worry if they have any type of shoulder mounted anti-aircraft weaponry or just a Dishka and some RPGs at the end of the runway.
All done to try and placate the folks back here for their incompetence over there.
“...along with 5,400 Americans out...”
A week ago the Embassy said there were 10,000-15,000 US citizens living in Kabul. (and others said many more living throughout the country.)
Were they lying about the number originally, or lying now???
And then after this Aug. 31 deadline, Afghanistan will disappear from the media, with no reporting on those stranded in Afghanistan. And with a hurricane heading towards the Gulf coast, the hurricane may dominate news coverage, and again push Afghanistan out of the headlines.
Sadly, the Taliban and ISIS love to parade prisoners in front of the media... and then kill them violently. I predict Americans and their sympathizers left in theater will become grist for a very bloody mill coming out of that area for a while. And we’ll do nothing about it.
Jen Psaki said something the other day, to the effect that it is up to Americans traveling overseas, in Afghanistan or any other country, to register with the American embassy or other authorities when in that other country.
The implication being, that if there are Americans in Afghanistan who never registered properly with authorities, that we officially don’t know that they are there, or something along those lines.
Then if we don’t know officially that they are officially there, then nobody can hold Biden accountable for stranding anyone, though we aren’t allowed to use the word stranded, my bad.
Once the US military finishes it’s withdrawal in Afghanistan, the war on terror will resume on US soil.
The Pentagon claimed, without evidence, they had killed…
or?
Zactly!
The whore media and worthless government are steps away from flushing Afghanistan down the toilet and it will all be forgotten but we will always feel sorry for ourselves on the new meaning of 9/11.
I think there will be reporting. Hell, the Taliban is allowed in Twitter but President Trump isn’t.
But, the Taliban has some savvy and they have some sympathetic ears. If they’re smart, they’ll go around and round up all the “Americans” that are still there and then ransom them off. Just like the Iranians did to those sailors, way back when.
The US and IMF froze billions in Afghani money and assets. What better way to get it back than to parade a few of these “Americans” on tv?
They’ll get their billions, and then some, I’m sure. The precedent was set years ago, by Soetero.
...do the math....Americans accounted for some 4.6 per cent of ALL refugees [sic] airlifted out of that hellhole of a country....4.6 per cent.....
.....a few weeks from now.....”Afghanistan...? hmmmmm; heard of that place, but can’t remember why it sticks in my mind....oh, well, let’s see who’s playing in the World Series....!!!” .....sadly, most folks could not find that miserable country on a world map if you outlined it in neon signage.....
A few more days of stonewalling and obfuscation, and all will be forgotten. A manufactured “crisis” will help things get rolling.
How about abandoned?
More truth than “stranded”.
The hurricane heading for Louisiana should do the trick.
The Democratic politicians who run the state most likely filled critical emergency management positions with “no show” jobs—so this is gonna get real ugly...
For those Americans that are left behind in Afghanistan, their world is ending.
Apocalypse now.
For us in the USA, our apocalypse has also begun considering the many Taliban we have imported under false visas.
