The House scrapped a planned vote to advance two key economic proposals as centrist Democrats and party leaders failed to break a stalemate over how to proceed with President Joe Biden’s sprawling economic agenda.
The chamber will reconvene at noon ET on Tuesday as Democrats try to strike a deal to move forward with legislation they see as an economic boon and a lifeline for households. House Democrats hope to take a procedural vote as soon as early Tuesday afternoon.
Biden’s domestic policy goals, and his party’s push to retain control of Congress in next year’s midterms, could hinge on whether Democrats find a compromise.

Regarding government, I’ve found I’ve never been disappointed when I assumed the worst, assume it is all lies.
Pelosi’s all hopped up trying to convince us commoners that this bill is “paid for” through enhanced (read tougher) IRS enforcement and raising the corporate tax rate.
I owned a corporation once. Toughest job I ever had. If the government raised the tax rate by say 3%, I wrote a letter to all our customers announcing a 3% increase in our prices. And I explained why and what the customer could do about it (elect level-headed legislators). Most of the responses I received agreed with me.
I hate it. I hate feeling this way, but I now view it as survival, and my cynical assessments have panned out far more often and accurately than my rational assessments.
That’s the truth. I never wanted to accept that I could be Charlie Brown in that scenario, but it is pretty clear, in many respects, I have been.
This “press” report is typical of what is presented as journalism. Hard to believe it was less this way at some point in the past, but I know it was.
