A US Air Force F-15 fighter jet shot down a drone said to have come from Iran after it was deemed a threat to troops stationed in eastern Syria Saturday.
'Coalition aircraft successfully engaged and defeated a UAS through air to air engagement in the vicinity of Mission Support Site Green Village,' US Army Colonel Wayne Marotto, who heads the US-led coalition against ISIS, told Reuters, using an acronym for an unmanned aircraft system.
Fox News reporter Lucas Tomlinson said an F-15E shot the 'Iranian' drone, which flew 'too close' to the 900 US troops in the area,,,,

But, but Dementia Joe said there are no US troops in Syria. In that interview with Stephanopoulos.
They shot down a drone and that’s news?
Was it one of the new search and destroy drones which automatically selects a target and destroys it?
Enquiring minds want to know.
What are we doing in Syria. Is it not time for America, , a White Supremacist colonial power,to stop seeking wars of conquest over black , brown and yellow people? Thats what we did in Afghanistan, why not do the surrender monkey dance in Syria too?
you know the air force. A week of headlines about Marines, and they get jealous and need to shoot something down.

They should have shot down those White Supremacist , colonial power rogue jets escaping Baghran AFB a fewdays ago.
That would have earned the USAF huge surrender monkey points with Surrender Joe and Knee Pads Harris.
First we surrender to the Taliban. Now we shoot down a drone. Boy are we gettin tough or what ?
I’m betting it was a US made drone they got from Afghanistan.
It would have much more advanced features and probably secure links to Command-Control.
Why don’t we get out of Syria? Close our terrorist training camp in Al Tanf, and also, quit stealing Syria’s oil, wheat crops, and supporting the terrorists in Idlib.
I am so sick of regime change attempts under the US Government’s lie of democracy and freedom. If my Government is so big on freedom, and democracy, why are they undermining those ideals here in the USA?
....as a former aircraft weapons troop myself, I would be curious as to how this F-15 shot down this drone... was it with its M61A1 “Vulcan” cannon or did the pilot launch a missile at it....?? jus’ askin’ .....
Fifty thousand dollar missile against one thousand dollar drone, the win goes to the drone.
I wouldn’t risk cannon fire on a drone
...probably so, but AIM-9 “Sidewinder” missiles are heat-seaking weapons, so I don’t know if a drone would put out enough heat for the AIM-9’s heat-seeker head to guide properly; and to use an AIM-120 AAMRAM against a drone would appear to be very unlikely....who knows....? maybe when that drone saw it was being tracked by that F-15 it go so scared s**tless that it self-destructed.....
They called it “an unmanned kamikaze drone”. Isn’t that simply a missile?
We need a better weapon to attack drones.

Both very expensive solutions for a cheapo Iranian drone.

No, they are usually off-the-shelf modified drones with explosive packages attached.

Could be.
But the Iranians are now using robot drones that automatically seek and destroy after launching, without commands.
