‘Imbecilic’: Ex-UK leader Tony Blair slams Afghan withdrawal

LONDON — Tony Blair, the British prime minister who deployed troops to Afghanistan 20 years ago after the 9/11 attacks, says the U.S. decision to withdraw from the country has “every Jihadist group round the world cheering.”

In a lengthy essay posted on his website late Saturday, Blair said the sudden and chaotic pullout that allowed the Taliban to reclaim power undermined everything that had been achieved in Afghanistan.

“The abandonment of Afghanistan and its people is tragic, dangerous, unnecessary, not in their interests and not in ours,” said Blair.

“The world is now uncertain of where the West stands because it is so obvious that the decision to withdraw from Afghanistan in this way was driven not by grand strategy but by politics,” he added.

Blair also accused U.S. President Joe Biden of being “in obedience to an imbecilic political slogan about ending ‘the forever wars’, as if our engagement in 2021 was remotely comparable to our commitment 20 or even 10 years ago.”

Blair also warned that the decision by the U.S. to keep Britain largely in the dark about the withdrawal risks relegating the country to “the second division of global powers.”

Has Conlin Powell weighed in on this, or is he still busy criticizing the Republican Party for being ‘a bit rough around the edges’ or something?

So leftists, rather than help take Demented Joe off the global stage they put him on, are instead calling him an imbecile.

I am sick and tired of these idiots acting horrified when what everyone with two functioning brain cells knew what would happen....happens.

We had the best and strongest president since Reagan and all these people running around with their hair on fire are the very ones who worked so hard to elect Biden.

I might be missing something, but I find it interesting that I’m not reading about any comments GW has made concerning all of this. Is nobody asking him what he thinks?

That’s what I said to my extremely liberal neighbor when she complained about Afghanistan. At least there are no mean tweets, you got exactly what you voted for, voting is not a team sport. She wasn’t very happy with me.

Totally agree. But let’s remember that there a cadre of thoroughly despicable “people” in D.C. that deserve the guillotine, burning, and remains launched into the sun in order to even begin cleansing our nation of the slime that has enveloped it.

I suspect this entire Afghan issue was the idea of Valerie Jarrett with the backing of Eric Holder.

It was always about how many Afghanis to bring here as possible, that’s the only thing that matters to the Left.

The worst thing may be the damage done to the very good idea of getting out of “forever wars.”

The consequences of electing an idiot are huge.

I haven't heard a squeak out of GWB.

Funny, he never seemed to be shy about saying something about Trump.
