An Afghan educated in Britain is leading the fightback in his home country, which has already seen between 60 to 100 Taliban killed.
Ahmad Massoud, son of a legendary mujahideen commander, is heading up the heavily-armed uprising....
...A source told us: “Over the past three days, remnants of the Afghan National Defence and Security Force made their way to Panjshir.
"They are bolstering, joining and supporting Massoud’s alliance....
...Massoud’s father – known as the “lion of Panjshir” – was murdered by al-Qaeda days before 9/11.
He led the CIA-backed Northern Alliance, which ousted the Taliban in 2002 and stabilised the country.
It is hoped the attacks led by his son may buy more evacuation time....

These types of stories, like the ones being spread by Oliver North, are designed to sucker us back into Afghanistan and holding up some other group we can pump money into for no good results.
Not so. The Panjsher, although about half the size of Los Angeles county, has been home to the Anti-Islamists for more than thirty years. It will serve as the rebels home from now into the future. Mahsood senior never depended on the United States for its survival, and if Mahsood junior is wise, he will reject the promises from Langley that are sure to come.
Keeping a few spec-ops troops backed by airpower and forward air observers is minimal cost to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a base for terrorists again. It worked well until Bush decided to do "nation building."
As you should see now, there's a big difference between not-winning and defeat. This is defeat.
