DALLAS — U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin says sometimes the coal industry is treated by Washington like a Vietnam War veteran who just returned home.

Manchin, D-West Virginia, welcomed U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh Wednesday to the Northern Panhandle, and the pair took a tour underground of the mine at Golden Ridge Portal of Ohio County Coal Resources Inc. in Dallas, West Virginia.

“I’ve talked to a lot of miners. And basically, the rhetoric coming out of Washington — because they don’t know who we are or what we do — is that they feel like the returning Vietnam veterans,” Manchin said.

“(Miners think) we’ve done everything you’ve asked of us, and now we’re not good enough. That’s not the case. You cannot replace what they’ve done.”

There could be a time in the future when America and the world transitions from coal, but that time is not now, he said...

Manchin should be left in the mine under tons of rubble. Along with 90% of congress. Just saying

Manchin is THE BIGGEST PHONY IN POLITICS TODAY.

There must be some sort of reliability in a person’s character...Manchin has no credibility.

He dances this dance over and over again and ALWAYS RETURNS TO HIS OBVIOUS ROOTS...SOCIALISM.

Sorry, my personal opinion.

I am sick of the Manchin dance.

There are about 1.8 million people living in West Virginia today. Fewer than 15,000 of them are employed in the mining industry. These people are nothing more than props for politicians like Manchin and this dope Walsh.

Agreed. I just laugh when FReepers look to Manchin to help Republicans turn back Democratic legislation. Never, ever learn.

350 years of recoverable, proven coal reserves in North America.
Butthead Biden wants to walk away...

Manchin could be a hero to West Virginians and the country. Very simple, Joe, switch parties TODAY! Explain that you can not continue to support a socialist party that the Democrats have become. Get Schumer out of the Majority Leader’s office and render Harris’s vote meaningless (of course we’d still have to deal with Republican turncoats). He has been nothing more than an opportunist and for him this would be the ultimate opportunity. The Democrat Party that elected him originally no longer exists proceed with the divorce, Joe!

In 50 years tops those will be completely irrelevant. We need oil and gas right now and Biden is making the world buy gas from Putin instead.

But, Manchin, the leader of YOUR party, Barack Obama, actively tried to kill the coal industry.

Natural gas is formed continuously although slowly. There will be new discoveries and old wells will be fracked more effciently. Methane hydrates are similar enough and those are practically unlimited.
