I doubt that a note signed under duress is enforceable.

Why is this wrong? I’ve never been able to get a free flight, anywhere. I assume this is international travel, so it’s going to cost something.

Did the British charge the people they rescued at Dunkirk? That wasn’t a pleasure cruise it was a rescue; so’s this.

I wonder if Trump will make any statements on this airplane ride cost? From the nets:

Trump claimed that he freed more than 50 people from 22 countries during his administration, more than any American President ever.

The Trump administration had indeed been active in the release of Americans. In 2019, the New Yorker reported Trump said his administration had brought home thirty-eight Americans held captive abroad, ranging from the 2017 rescue of Caitlan Coleman and her family, held for five years by the Taliban in Pakistan, to the 2018 release of the American pastor Andrew Brunson, unjustly imprisoned by Turkey on charges of collaborating with a coup.

Maybe they’re saying this to set up Biden so he can come out & look like some sort of hero by announcing they don’t have to pay.

Bet they’ll waive the fee for anyone claiming to be LGBTQWERTY.

It IS the State Department, after all.

If the US Military or DOS paid them and ordered them to be there, whether .mil, civilian, or as a contractor for the US government, NATO, or the now defunct Afghan government and are US Citizens, they (US DOS) are responsible to get them out for free. Now if an idiot went over there on their free will outside of a contractor or official orders then they should be charged for it.

At this point, Americans in Afghanistan might be better off going to the Russian or Chinese embassies and making arrangements to return home through them.

It doesn’t get any worse than this.

"Why is this wrong? I’ve never been able to get a free flight, anywhere. I assume this is international travel, so it’s going to cost something."

Because the only reason they are stuck there is because of the Biden administration's bungling. Under normal circumstances, they WOULD pay their own way, but these are not normal circumstances.

Did they make the Afghans pay for their flights out? Of course not. Do they make the illegal aliens they fly around the country pay for their flights? Of course not. Do they make them pay for the government housing the get while they are awaiting relocation? Of course not.

Consider for a minute that the Taliban decides who gets into the airport.

Sun Tsu on infiltration: The great Chinese strategist Sun Tzu theorized that the most efficient and devastating way to destroy a country or opponent was to "infect" and then rot his organization (s) from within. Sun was a prophet as well as a strategist.
