There is actually a quote or maybe a comment in the article where Penn thinks he is wrong more often than he is right.

The problem is that he’s outspoken and even when he is admittedly wrong about a topic, people listen to him because he’s a good actor and director.

Not an admirer of his because of that outspokenness, but that’s the way our culture works these days. Just because you are skilled and admired in your profession suddenly means your opinion matters to people. I guess thats just human nature.
