The Biden administration plans to tell nursing homes to vaccinate their staff against Covid-19 or risk losing Medicare and Medicaid funding, officials said.
President Biden intends to announce the directive on Wednesday. The administration plans to issue a new regulation through the Department of Health and Human Services that would make Medicare and Medicaid funding for nursing homes conditional on their staff being vaccinated. The new requirements, which will be drafted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, could take effect as early as next month, the officials said.
The regulation would affect more than 15,000 nursing homes that employ roughly 1.3 million workers, one of the officials said.
CNN earlier reported the news, which comes as a Covid-19 wave driven by the Delta variant sends cases in nursing homes higher again. As of Aug. 1, 82.4% of nursing-home residents per facility were vaccinated, CMS data show. But only 60% of nursing-home workers are vaccinated. Health experts say nursing-home workers pose a risk because they come and go daily and work so closely with often-fragile seniors.
The Biden administration has taken more forceful action in recent weeks to scale up vaccinations across the country, both through new requirements for federal workers and by pushing the private sector to adopt a more assertive role in helping inoculate the U.S. population.
Last month, Mr. Biden said federal employees and on-site contractors must get vaccinated or submit to regular testing and other mitigation measures. The Pentagon said this month it would make vaccinations mandatory for U.S. service members by mid-September, and HHS and the Department of Veterans Affairs have said they will require vaccines for their healthcare workers.

“They can’t possibly make most everyone take the vaccine”, said by many Freepers not that long ago. No surprise they are taking this tact. Slowly but surely.
Pretty soon they will withhold Social Security payments from anyone refusing the “vaccines.”
A lot of their workers are younger Blacks who have not been vaccinated. They will have trouble getting replacements.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why there should never be “federal funding” in the first place.
Federal funding has ALWAYS meant Federal control.

With the chronic labor shortage in this industry we will see another killing fields as a result of this.
nursing home staff is often not paid particularly well given some of the tasks they have to perform (bathing, cleaning adults, keeping people with memory issues and significant medication routines). Good luck finding enough people to hire at $12-14/hour to do this work to replace all the people who have been putting up with covid protocols for a year and a half because they decide they've finally had enough.
The Left does all it’s evil deeds by degrees. They will steadily expand the groups required to be vaccinated. The people of this country are conditioned to accept the Lefts power grabs like frogs in a pot of water. Obama started it with his executive orders. He never let the reaction to his actions get a foothold. He would just follow it up with another one. In short order people got shell shocked and just quit fighting back.
He has no credibility left at all.
THAT is my concern.
