The Biden administration’s Department of Defense spokesperson admitted in an interview with CNN on Tuesday that it does not know how many American citizens remain in Afghanistan. Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby told CNN that there are “certainly thousands of Americans … we don’t have an exact count.”
“Best guess … between five and ten thousand that are near Kabul,” he continued. “There was a message put out by the State Department today advising those Americans about how to queue up and how to get to the airport so that now that security’s better, they don’t need to necessarily shelter in place.”

He did say about 30,000 Afghans would be “resettled” in the USA. He also said he would not give priority to Americans for evacuation.

Five to ten thousand civilians, five or six thousand military personnel. Good going Creepy Joe, they are in effect hostages already. If the Taliban wanted to, they could close the airport and all those people are prisoners. Biden and his handlers can talk big, but the Taliban is in control of the situation.

Amen. I agree we need to get out of Afghanistan, however bye-bye announcing a specific date it basically gave the Taliban time to plan and be ready for that date.
As far as I read, the Trump plan was slowly withdraw over a period of time based on the current conditions. For example, if the plan was to remove X number of troops, equipment, etc. by say July 17th, As long as As specific conditions were met. If Those conditions were met, it would change what was removed, how many troops, etc.

Dude from “No man left behind” organization, Zeller, I believe, pointed out yesterday that he has provided the Biden admin with a list of some 10’s of thousands of Americans that need to get out, now.
Exactly. I have no idea about the conditions around the airport, it’s perimeter security conditions, etc. With the speed of the rest of the country was taken over, the Taliban now has a big giant target they could attack and effectively shut down at the whim.
They could easily cut power, water, Communications, etc. Without even having to attack the physical infrastructure to create a massive problem.
