The rapid US withdrawal from Afghanistan that has left the gate open for the Taliban to surge to power may come as a surprise to some, but President Biden has been in favour of pulling out for years.
In 2010, Biden reportedly told Richard Holbrooke, then Obama's special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, that the US had to leave Afghanistan regardless of the cost for the Afghan people.
According to Holbrooke, when Biden was asked about America's obligation to maintain their presence in Afghanistan to protect vulnerable civilians, he scornfully replied by referencing the US exit from southeast Asia in 1973.

VietNam’s “boat people” have been a positive thing for America.
Afghans maybe not so much.
Biden’s not only a hack. He’s a stupid, offensive hack.
“President Biden has been in favour of pulling out for years”
If I had a son like Hunter, I’d probably be in favor of pulling out too.
Are you here all week.
Is there plenty of free parking.
Could we be in a greater comedy paradise.
And there ya have it. All he cares about is what he can “get away” with.
Still plagiarizing......................

I’ve seen a lot of people blaming Nixon for the “boat people’ and Saigon. He wasn’t in office. Ford was.
Nixon said something similar when the post-Watergate weather started changing for him.
The Democrats, quoth he, get away with this kind of stuff ALL THE TIME! But it’s true. We don’t accept it from Republicans.
There are some parallels but as far as execution goes this doesn’t really compare. Nixon negotiated while at the same time bombing the heck out of the north. In the end it was a failure but not for lack of trying.
Trump did draw the forces down, but the forces that remained kept the Taliban in check. When the Taliban broke their agreements they paid a price; often with military force.
Now there are people trapped all over that country. Americans, others, and Afghans who were are allies, aides, translators and so many others. What we see at the Kabul airport is the tip of the iceberg. No real effort appears to have been made to bring them in to a safe zone before letting the Taliban run amok.
this is 10,000 times worse than Vietnam...Nixon and American combat troops were long gone by the time Saigon collapsed in 1975...South Vietnam fought by themselves the last 2-3 years and did a pretty good job...it was Biden and the Dems back then who cut off funding and stabbed them in the back..this situation here..there are thousands of Americans through out Afghanistan who cant get to the only way out in Kabul....if the Taliban wanted to, they could simply start executing them...never seen anything like this in my life...anywhere ever in any other war....all just to remove 2500 troops??....insanity.
Those boat people have been a tremendous positive to the US.
Also, I am of the opinion that we.actually won the Vietnam war, it just took 50 years to do it.
More chaos and a continuing horror story from the Kabul airport!
“Those boat people have been a tremendous positive to the US.”
I have known several of them through the years, all of them have been very patriotic, hard working Americans very grateful to be here.
VietNam’s “boat people” have been a positive thing for America.
Afghans maybe not so much.
I knew some Iranians in college. Fine people. They were all from Tehran.
Often wonder what become of them.
There was no election.
No indeed. My local Iranian shop owners who are modern and little religions cannot stand their Afghan worker. They call him “another dumb Aluha Akbar”. Indeed, like an insecure klansman, this dude’s sense of pride only derives from his cult.
