A poster wrote that only 5% of Americans care about what happens in Afghanistan. That may be true now but the worst has yet to come. When the Taliban takes American hostages and threatens to kill them or actually kills them in front of a video camera, a lot more than 5% will care about the events in Afghanistan.

Regarding contractors, I agree with you in the sense that most of these folks made a reckless decision. I worked there, off and on, for nearly three years. But I always had my ear to the ground and I made a conscious decision that if anything looked like the situation was going to collapse I would immediately resign from my job, book my flight out and bail that same day. Many of these jobs pay crazy money and I believe that a lot of contractors, hooked on that cash, were kidding themselves by thinking, "ahh, this will all blow over and I'll keep raking in the coin." Still, I'm in favor of doing whatever it takes to get them out of there. We've all made stupid decisions and these folks don't deserve to be tortured, raped or killed because they made a poor one.
