Long ago, I argued that Afghanistan ought to be continuously bombed to the stone age. Any bridge. Any dam. Road. Non mud hut building. Cell tower. Everything.

There would be no food grown and no one crazy enough to transport any food in. The average civilian would have fled the country long ago, and if the Taliban somehow held on with only a few thousand survivors say after only 20 years of bombing, whom would they rule over?

Afghanistan has the largest known concentration of rare earth elements outside of China. Trillions of dollars. Without them, high speed communications are not possible. That’s why we’ve been there for 20 years. The value of the heroin is pale by comparison. China Joe just gave it all away to his friends.
There was a time that I would have felt bad about this.
China was also smart enough to support the winning side. Those we chose were not interested enough in the situation to fight for themselves, either when Russia was there nor when we were there.

Somewhat of a cynical response, but if the press excoriates a bunch of bikers for not wearing masks, where’s the outrage when the plane chasers are bare faced?
Nobody in Afghanistan (or Iraq) recognizes the lines we in the west draw on a map and many in our gubmint know it. For thousands of years those folks have been fighting tribe against tribe, against each other, not for a common state. Tribal warfare is all they know. So, what do the C- students in Congress do? Send in the red, white and blue horse (fueled by billions of American tax dollars and thousands of lives) to "save Afghanistan" with Democracy. What a farce.
