A spokesman for the Taliban has told the BBC's Yalda Hakim "there will be no revenge" on the people of Afghanistan.
Suhail Shaheen called the presenter live on air. "We assure the people in Afghanistan, particularly in the city of Kabul, that their properties, their lives are safe - there will be no revenge on anyone," he told her.
"We are the servants of the people and of this country."
Many Afghans fear a brutal return to the regime of the 1990s, which was characterised by public executions, stonings and girls being banned from school.

Biden paid the ransom.
Scorpion and frog story comes to mind.
What are Taliban promises of peaceful coexistence worth? Nothing.
Just try reminding them of their promises when they are chopping off your head.
Probably most of the old government has already fled. Who is left to negotiate?
They’re the Softer Gentler Taliban.
No revenge, means they are going go be brutal to everyone, regardless of their prior support of the Afghan government.

Tell That to the many 11 year old girls they are kidnapping and raping as they go door to door terrorizing the people.
So, right off the bat, he has lied!
Taqiyya, defnition: The approved Islamic practice of lying to an infidel in order to deceive.
“Taqiyya allows, and even encourages, you to lie to achieve your goals.”
Dr. Ben Carson
Is it true that the word “Islam” translates to “submission?”
Just look at it , would you believe a word that comes out of it
Allow me to translate: “We will have peace when all our enemies are in pieces. Too many of them have ‘heads.’”
How many pallets will this be? And what past oversight will this be a ‘correction’ of?
Mean while a little more than an hour ago Al-Jizzera reported pilots as saying Afghan Forces have fled the heavily protected Kabul airport.
Guess this leave a place for the Talibans newest toys...
Air Taliban: Fighters seize $6million US Blackhawk helicopters alongside tons of American equipment – while taking to the skies in captured Russian choppers as advance approaches outskirts of Kabul,” by Tom Pyman, MailOnline, August 14, 2021:
Taliban fighters today seized $6million US Blackhawk helicopters alongside tons of American equipment as they took to the skies in captured Russian choppers amid their advance through Afghanistan.
A series of videos being shared on social media show insurgents flying the Kremlin-made mi-17 aircraft around the city of Kandahar, with concerns continuing to grow over the militants’ ongoing grab for power.
Even more seismic, however, is the evidence that the Taliban have also seized American-made Blackhawk helicopters, made famous in the 2001 Ridley Scott blockbuster.
The Afghan government pilots who fly the operational Russian helicopters have been turned to the Taliban, while the US helicopters are likely to be grounded by a lack of spare parts from the United States.
Just one look at that McMohamad dude and you know that Taqiya is his middle name.
Exactly like what happened in Washington DC on January 19.
Peaceful Transition to Military Power - Mistake or Slip of the Tongue
Sure.
I totally believe him.
🤪
He looks like a really nice and honest guy.
I believe him.
Don’t you?
Probably a really great guy to sip a cup of tea with and have a chat about gardening or something.
Prediction:
Just like what has happened with the Vietnamese communists over the past 50 years, I predict the same will happen with the taliban in the next fifty.
We currently have peaceful relations with Vietnam, including quickly growing trade and tourism. They’ve pretty much shed the communist foundations and are embracing capitalism and freedom more and more.
I think the same will happen in Afghanistan in due time. Their primitive islamist tendencies will soften and slowly become more westernized, but they’ll do it on their terms and time schedule.
Though our twenty years there have been a military disaster, a whole generation of afghans have been exposed to what the west can offer. As was the case in Vietnam, this will be the lasting legacy and what will bring about gradual change.
Maybe it wasn’t all a waste.
This is Afghan General Dostum’s House. 2 MINUTES!
