Country delivers more booster shots, restores mask and quarantine mandates as Delta variant drives up hospitalizations
TEL AVIV—After becoming one of the first countries to open up thanks to a widespread Covid-19 vaccination campaign, Israel is again on guard, this time against the spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus.
Mask mandates are back, including requirements to mask up for large outdoor gatherings. Many venues require people to show proof of vaccination, a negative Covid-19 test or proof of recovery from the virus. People returning from most countries have to quarantine for at least a week, even if they are fully vaccinated. Over-60s are being offered a third, booster shot of Pfizer Inc.’s vaccine, and the government is planning to offer it to younger recipients with the hopes it can suppress the rise of cases of severe illness.
Health officials are warning that Israel could face a fourth lockdown during the Jewish holiday season in September if the country doesn’t deliver more booster shots and improve on its wider vaccination rate; 60% of the total population are fully vaccinated, making up around 80% of adults…

Perhaps more jabs are the answer?
Never Again forgotten in Israel? Politicians in Israel creating Holocaust II?
I posted something yesterday about how Canada and UK may be doing better because they waited 9-12 weeks between the 2 doses of the Vaccines including of Pfizer. And waiting longer boosts antibody and T cell memory.
They will have to make the so called vaccine a breakfast cereal. Sugar Shots or Phizer Puffs or ?
Israel in a state of mass confusion , it’s amazing
Triple masks with inserts? Shut down the Wailing wall? This bug is gonna be irritating us from now on like seasonal flu and colds. And with a 99+% survival rate. Even with the world wide death rate at 100% eventually..... Went to a potential super spreader event last night. ZZ Top concert indoors. Even with nevaDUH indoor mask requirements, enforcement was almost non existent at the venue. I didn’t see anyone confronted about putting one on even going through the metal detectors or showing their tickets. And, ZZ Top just played at the YUGE super spreader event at Sturgis a couple days ago. OH NOES!
Is this a another variety or a side effect of the vax?
Gee if they only had Vaccination Passports that would work......... maybe with three masks...... and a bubble suit.
What a stupid post
7 day average deaths in Israel - 12, down from 62 in January. average daily cases in Israel, about 5,000. Case fatality rate about .2%. Assuming a 2 week lag, since there were 2,000+ cases per day 2 weeks ago, case fatality rate is .5%. The US cumulative case fatality rate is 1.7% As of yesterday, the recent US case fatality rate has dropped to about .9%, 540 average daily deaths versus 64,000 average daily cases as of 18 days ago. The case fatality rate in the UK is about .3% now. In France, Italy and Spain, the case fatality rate is about .5% The vaccines are better at preventing deaths than at preventing cases. Where’s Impimp?? For the vaccinated, Covid really is the flu. It’s odd that anyone is focusing on Israel, which is tiny (pop 10mm) compared to Europe. In Europe and the UK, Covid is now a bad strain of flu for the vaccinated.

I do think this may be caused by Israeli reports that the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is only circa 43-45 percent effective against the Delta and Delta+ variants. Given that Israelis also use the the AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines; I wonder have the Israeli government broken down the number of people who have come down sick with COVID based on what vaccine they took?
It’a almost as if the vaccines don’t work.
Puzzling, but I’m sure the experts will be on this ASAP.
My two doses of Pfizer were ten weeks apart
Hi Ray,
Israel did not use Astra but solely Pfizer with 80% of eligible teens and adults vaccinated. And with the minimum 3 week gap between doses.
They are however switching to Moderna come fall, which does seem to pack a stronger punch. It may be more effective than Pfizer but it’s also more side effect ridden for some that’s been my anecdotal observation.
The vaccines don’t appear to work against the Delta variant.
Actually, I had a Jewish friend in Israel say almost the same thing. She mentioned wearing a yellow star on her clothes.
That’s great! I get the sense there are less side effects with the delay as well.
As far as America’s CDC goes, current recommendations are as follows:
You should get your second shot as close to the recommended 3-week or 4-week interval as possible. However, your second dose may be given up to 6 weeks (42 days) after the first dose, if necessary. You should not get the second dose early. There is currently limited information on the effectiveness of receiving your second shot earlier than recommended or later than 6 weeks after the first shot.
However, if you do receive your second shot of COVID-19 vaccine earlier or later than recommended, you do not have to restart the vaccine series. This guidance might be updated as more information becomes available.
