'My heart breaks': Veterans see two decades of sacrifice disappear as Afghanistan crumbles.
NY Post ^ | 14 August 2021 | Eileen AJ Connelly

The speed of the Taliban’s advance across Afghanistan in the past few weeks left US veterans who served in America’s longest war “stunned and dismayed.” The withdrawal was “a betrayal of American and international forces, said Army Staff Sgt. Seamus Fennessy

What you guys do not understand is that the fighting for freedom people in Afghanistan are the Taliban.

“Freedom” is value neutral. Whenever anybody wants you to fight for an alien tribe’s “freedom”, the first question should be, “freedom to do what?”

The people of Afghanistan want to be free to resume their barbaric and savage way of life.

This infantry and armor Vietnam combat vet would like to issue a forlorn welcome to the club to all of my contemporary veteran comrades. But in the case of South Vietnam, they DID fight fairly effectively for over 3 years after the last US combat units were withdrawn, until their logistical train was cut due to Democrat (is there a pattern here?) machinations in the wake of Watergate and Richard Nixon. Remember, a black clad guerilla Army did NOT seize and flatten the gates of the Presidential palace in Saigon. It was T-54, and T-55/T-59 tanks lavishly supplied by the Soviet Union and Red China, It is very difficult to defend against an armor led blitzkrieg when your artillery firing batteries are rationed to 10 rounds a day, and your aircraft can’t fly due to lack of fuel and spare parts.

Now, we have a senile old DEMONRAT goat as POTUS, with an utterly inept and inadequate plan for withdrawal from Afghanistan, as he pitifully begs the Taliban to not damage US soil in the form of the US Embassy whenever they seize Kabul, as they leave a treasure trove of first line US equipment for them to seize.

Where did they expect this to end? After Bin Laden was taken out we should have left. Finoto. This is all BS. It is known as the tribal lands. Did we forget the 1842 retreat from Kabul? Or do we just like the taste of dried shit? Chinese will get their mouths full as well. Afghanistan is the anus of the world. Smells like it, tastes like it.

I was very familiar with “leatherneck Square” or Con Thien. We used to operate out of FSB C-2, and it’s northernmost twin, A-4. My A/O was Northern I Corp, to include Khe Sahn and FSB Vandergrift. We engaged nothing but NVA. The only VC we encountered was the local militia that mined the roads between C-2 and Cam Lo. The VC had largely been wiped out in the Tet offensive, and their cadres had been replaced with NVA from the North.

When I was in the 77th armor, we occasionally provided armor support to the 26th Marines with our M-48A3’s, because their organic armor (same type of tank, go figure) had been removed by their commanders.

Take care and welcome home to you!!

I’m VERY familiar with C2 ... my home away from home. Spent a few months there waiting out the monsoon rains and mud (’67 - ‘68).

Our secular religion, Eric Prince called it: “Star Trek cosplay”, you know the one that says endemic boy rape is a protected and respectable cultural tradition, never stood a chance against the scourge of Islam.

I wonder if that same secular religion will succeed in raping our pansy asses with an experimental “vaccine”.

You were there during the worst of it. Some of the heaviest fighting of the entire war was at Con Thien until Tet 68.

I will never forget that July 2nd 1967 photo of 9th Marine dead piled up to nearly the height of the turret roof on the back deck of a Marine M48A3. It had to be gruesome and so very sad.
