The United Nations refugee agency on Friday called on Afghanistan’s neighbors to keep their borders open to avert a humanitarian disaster as the Taliban continue the offensive to retake the country.
“An inability to seek safety may risk innumerable civilian lives. UNHCR stands ready to help national authorities scale up humanitarian responses as needed,” a spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees told a briefing in Geneva.
A spokesperson for the World Food Programme, the world’s largest humanitarian organization, said food shortages in the war-torn country are “quite dire” and worsening, adding that the situation had all the hallmarks of a humanitarian catastrophe.
Thousands of displaced people have been arriving in Kabul, seeing the capital as their last safe refuge, according to the BBC.

The Taliban obviously have a plan for complete takeover of Afghanistan and are executing it to perfection. The idea of shared control was not in the cards as our side suggested - Taliban cards.
Our Intel agencies (CIA, NSA, military) have failed again - miserably.
Of course, that means nothing if their leaders keep letting rapefugees sail across the English Channel.

Disallow any immigration - if they can’t muster up the backbone to fight for their own country, why does that become my problem?

We didn’t go in to win. That would have involved killing the enemy. My Marine buddy spent several tours there. With no rancor he gives numerous examples of why we can’t possibly win. The Marines taught the natives to fight. Gave them weapons. Warned them when the Taliban were on the way. Stood back ready to assist...and watched the men go out to meet them, lay down their weapons and full-ground grovel bow to them. My Marine buddy said it was a waste of blood and treasure.
