The Biden administration and Democratic congressional leaders are pushing back on Republican lawmakers who have said Democrats will have to go it alone on raising or suspending the debt ceiling. President Biden said Wednesday that he is not worried about the debt ceiling and pointed out that the national debt rose dramatically under the previous administration when Republicans were in power.
"They're not going to let us default," Mr. Biden said in response to a question on the debt ceiling. "$8 trillion of that is on the Republican conscience."
The suspension of the limit for how much the United States can borrow to pay its bills expired at the end of July, forcing the Treasury to use so-called extraordinary measures and teeing up a battle in Washington. ...
..."I cannot believe the Republicans will let the country default," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on Wednesday. "It has always been bipartisan to deal with the debt ceiling."...

The less that is borrowed, the less chance there is of defaulting over the long run.
The debt ceiling has nothing to do with default.
The “country”

I say default. We are going off the ledge regardless, mind as well be now.
That reminds me, I need to go shopping this weekend.
hey, they overspent now we get to overspend
fair is fair
debt=deferred taxes
He’s right. The Republicans will put on a show of opposing an increase in the debt ceiling, but if they controlled either house of Congress they’d be falling all over themselves to raise it.
Don’t get your hopes up...18-19 of them will, prolly the same ones that voted for BidenIdiot’s infrastructure bill.......
The less money the government has, the fewer resources they can muster to screw with you.
This is the essential benefit of a limited government, which we no longer have.
Aaaaaargh.
We are NOT in any danger of defaulting.
All we have to do is continue to pay interest on our debt.
Which we can, or could, easily do.
Is that what Deep State has really been up to?
Making our economic mess so dire that we can’t even pay the interest on our debt?!
How about quit spending money.
Of course. China Mitch was clumsily trying to change the topic from the GOP’s surrender on the “infrastructure” bills.
Dems will happily shut down the government and inflict pain on Americans until the GOP caves. We’ve seen this movie before. It has a bad ending.
It is all tired theater. Republicans fundraising off of the debt ceiling issue and then agreeing to raise the debt level.
Tell me this, when have Republicans ever not agreed to raise the debt ceiling? Ever. Name just the year. I’ll wait...
Why do we even have a debt ceiling? It is perennially being raised anyway. Its only purpose seems to be to afford politicians a platform to pontificate and lie to the citizenry.
How are we going down? Stock market is at all time high. People’s 401-k’s are at all time high. We still have strongest military in world. We are not fighting any hot wars. Unemployment is so low, I can’t find any contractors to build a fence for my back yard. There is a shortage of workers everywhere. Sure it is mostly because of overly generous unemployment checks being handed out. But we can’t get away from the fact that there are more job openings than workers willing to work.
Rumors of demise of USA are highly exaggerated.
Rand Paul has done it every time.
That's the GOP. Go along to get along - as long as the Congressional bennies keep flowing in, they're fine with holding hands with the RATs.
G.O.P. = Globalist Opportunistic Pariah
I’m thinking that if the American public could see a full statement of everything that is spent using public funds...they could see where MUCH of it(perhaps the majority)is not necessary expenses. Now if there were only a way of charging that back to the personal accounts of those who voted for it.
If we saw where the money went they would be asking for wayyyy less. Some of this money filters back to some of the people who voted for it.
