A Democrat judge out of Travis County, Texas, sided Sunday with Democrat lawmakers, pejoratively called “fleebaggers,” who fled the state in protest of new election integrity laws.
State District Judge Brad Urrutia granted a temporary restraining order “blocking the arrest of House Democrats who have broken quorum by leaving the state, paving the way for those who remain outside of Texas to return home without threat of arrest,” KWTX reported.
More than 50 House Democrats fled the Lone Star State to Washington, DC, in early July to block the passage of an elections bill they said would restrict voting access. Those same lawmakers were photographed smiling and maskless on a plane and were later seen with a case Miller Lite — prompting critics to note that alcohol sales require photo ID — something that, when applied to voting, Democrats routinely describe as suppressive and racist.
Unless Urrutia extends the order, it will expired in 14 days. According to the station, the court will hear arguments on a temporary injunction on August 20 where Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) and House Speaker Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) must show why a temporary injunction should not be filed against them.

Ignore this dip.
I don’t think Abbott has the nads.
Yet they are being paid to do a job. They are not doing that Job. Why wouldn’t that be fraud?
Nah, just tar and feather him.
Abbot is a RINO. Not as much as Kemp or Ducey, but if he wasn’t a RINO, he would have been more vocal about it and arrested the varmints. And where’s the state AG? Texas, get your primaries in order.
The leftist are simply above the law. They’ve got these activist judges who support everything the left does. So everyone else can just eff off.
He doesn’t. He’ll spine out in the name of fairness and decency.
How did I know it would be Travis County?
Oy vey.
so their expenses could be undeclared income if we had an IRS of the type that went after Al Capone.
I asked this before so maybe some Texas Freepers can answer this.
Can the Governor stop the salary/per diem payments to these Fleebaggers on the grounds that they are in “dereliction of duty” and “malfeasance of office” by Non-performance for their money and disrupting the smooth flow of the state legislature?
Any ideas on this would be appreciated.
I’m only aware that the Governor can declare a seat as having been vacated and a special election can be held. Although I don’t know the time that a seat remains unseated before the Governor can declare it as been vacated.
I would have set the legal time and declared a seat as vacant.
I believe Beto’s PAC is paying for it.
I don’t think a state judge can overrule the governor. Take it to the TX Supremes & see what happens.
Ignore the judge. The judge has no say.
The judge has no jurisdiction in the matter. Under separation of powers, the legislature and governor have their own powers that cannot be undermined by the judicial branch.
These arrest warrants are constitutional under Texas state law and its constitution. If not, any minority of legislators can indefinitely undermine the constitutional role of a Texas legislature in its power to pass laws.
If the Texas legislature cannot enforce its own rules, there is no point in having a legislative branch.
Biden ignores Supreme Court rulings. Abbot should tell this judge to go to hell. Arrest them all, drag them in to vote. Simple. No one will do anything about it.
Amen....
Find a court of superior authority and move on.
Look at the “Rules” the Texas House adopted at the beginning of the session.
It is their sandbox and they play by rules that are different from the rules (laws) controlling the behavior of the plebs outside of the capitol in Austin.
