Does the Infrastructure Bill Spell Doom for Residential Natural Gas?
realclearenergy.org ^ | 8/4/2021 | Ben Lieberman

Climate activists and their allies in the Biden administration have declared war on natural gas. Although it is clean-burning, affordable, and domestically plentiful, these ideologues are targeting natural gas for extinction because of its greenhouse gas emissions. Biden has already imposed heavy-handed regulations like the suspension of natural gas leasing on federal lands and in federal waters, and procedural hurdles like a tougher approval process for new natural gas pipelines. He also supports measures aimed at discouraging or outright preventing home and business owners from choosing natural gas, thus forcing these end-users to rely entirely on electricity.

At the local level, a number of “progressive” cities, starting with Berkeley, California in 2019, outlawed natural gas hookups for new homes and businesses. This is bad news. Not only are natural gas furnaces, water heaters, stoves, and other appliances generally cheaper to purchase and operate than their electric counterparts, they also have qualitative advantages. Most notably, restaurant owners (and amateur chefs) will tell you that natural gas cooking is vastly superior to electric. Yet, these measures would take away the option of natural gas for those who prefer it.

Part of becoming a third world country (where the elites rule with an iron fist and everyone else drools) is to create an unreliable and intermittent power grid.

Then the elites can keep the power on for those who obey—and shut it off for those who do not.

Once that is accomplished they will keep the power on for government offices and wealthy zip codes, and let everyone else scramble for scraps.

Natural Gas is the best thing since sliced bread. Cheap and abundant.

Democrats hate cheap and abundant.

They are trying to figure out how to make air expensive and rare...

This reminds me of the tale of the city kid who said he didn’t need farmers because he got his food from the grocery store.

A REAL journalist would ask these nimrods where electricity comes from….

One of those things in goverment mandate that the market will just no buy into.

Once you have a gas fired unlimited hot water heater and 45 minute showers not even the most green will no longer move to neighborhood or build a house in that does not have NG hookups.

I do note the granola eaters are the ones who are the ones always stating they can skip showers. Sure with a 20 gallon hot water heater in your efficiently Berkley condo one may get want to standing under a cold water spigot.

Remember this legislation is written by people who chose to move to DC with a legislative calendar with more months in DCs summer than in mild DC winters. They probably do stand under the cold water spigot.

Be brave greenies.... ban HVAC is DC. Most of DCs problems will be solved between NOV and March, long summer sessions will be over instantly.

Treehuggers (aka global warming TWOTs) are not against natural gas because of its CO2 impact. If that were true they’d back nuclear. No, they are against civilization and how it supports all those trash people who disagree with them.
They hate humanity. They want you dead.

Natural gas was handy during the Texas ice storm last Feb.

Indeed. Its unconscionable that 200 people died, mostly from hypothermia.

They want you dead

Correct answer.

The issue is not the issue. The revolution is the issue.

We love the natural gas in our house! It’s a LOT cheaper than electric. If natural gas were suddenly unavailable, we would have to spend a lot of money to replace our furnace, water heater and oven. I truly despise these power-hungry socialists in Washington.

Remember when they complained about our power grid being inadequate?

Since then they’ve shut down many existing plants and stopped or delayed construction of new plants.

Power generation is being shifted to solar and wind which are unreliable.

Now they want homes to go all-electric and require electric cars.

So what is the end goal? Is it to turn us into a 3rd world country where they can control the flow of energy?

“The worrisome provisions in the infrastructure bill will look tame compared with the promised reconciliation package that Congressional Democrats believe they can pass without a single Republican vote.”

So, unless I’m misreading the above, that means EVERY RINO is going to vote against this horrible bill, and EVERY DEMOCRAT is going to vote for it.

...so much for the “there’s no difference between RINOs and Democrats” line.

They’d have been happy for a dose of global climate warming. Obviously these pushers of lies(POLs) have never attempted to do any serious work in sub zero temps.

Most the nations city / suburban residential gas lines are about 75 to 100 years old. They leak almost as much gas under the ground than they bill for end use. The cost benefit analysis in repair / replace / abandon, has shifted to abandonment.
