Some thoughts on the media after New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a report that found New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women and even retaliated against one for going public.
No. 1: Isn't it fascinating how a probe like this can just vanish for months at a time? At the end of June, Rich Noyes of the Media Research Center noted that after 82 minutes of Cuomo scandal coverage in March, there was nothing in April, May or June. They still touted him on COVID-19 policy and skipped the scandal.
"But he's just a governor," some might argue. OK, but this is a governor that the national media treated like a "shadow president" and national hero in the battle against COVID-19 in 2020. The cable networks ran many of his press conferences live and unedited.
With the Trump scandals, the networks seemed like a perpetual motion machine, constantly kicking up new dirt. Did any of them let the Robert Mueller probe into Russian interference just vanish for months at a time? But this probe just dropped off the edge of a media cliff.
No. 2: This underlines again why many Americans don't trust the news media. CNN not only hired a Cuomo; they promoted him to prime time based on the Democrat glamour of his family. The shameless Cuomo brothers comedy routines during 2020 exposed CNN's complete contempt for professional tenets of conflicts of interest.
Celebrity dazzle outranked media ethics, every time.
No. 3: Then The Washington Post reported that Chris Cuomo was attending the governor's staff meetings and offering his brother advice to stay "defiant" in the wake of all these sexual harassment accusers. Obviously, the Chris Cuomo Playbook is in effect, as the governor denied touching anybody inappropriately, as many Americans with a political memory hear an echo of, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky." How does that make female employees of CNN feel?
How did CNN handle that mess? On May 23, "Reliable Sources" host Brian Stelter suggested maybe Chris could take a break over the conflicts. Stelter vaguely noted Cuomo advised his brother "about how to handle the sexual harassment scandal that has engulfed the governor's office," but he never specified the Post reported that Chris "encouraged his brother to take a defiant position."
As usual, media outlets are going to sound weak and incomplete when reporting on their own scandals and messes. Cuomo faced no danger, but Stelter, a few seconds later, lauded the leftist voices who got conservative former Sen. Rick Santorum dumped from CNN for not giving the Native Americans enough credit for their place in American culture and history. Santorum had to go, but Jeffrey Toobin could pull out his penis and masturbate on a Zoom call, and CNN brought him back into the fold.
No. 4: What if Andrew Cuomo was forced to resign? President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi both called for him to resign after the new report. Then again, many Democrats called on Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam to resign. He refused, and now he's appearing in campaign ads on TV.
Let's remember that Eliot Spitzer, the last Democratic governor of New York who resigned in disgrace in a sex-worker scandal, went on to get a nighttime talk show on CNN in 2010 with columnist Kathleen Parker. Maybe the Q-Tip Twins can host together on "Cuomo(s) Prime Time."
ALL DEMOCRATS ARE EVIL and CORRUPT! It’s NOT your grandfather’s Democrat Party!
NYAG Letitia freaks me out even more than Cuomo.
Spitzer was the Governor of New York who resigned because he got caught nailing hookers while on State business.
I was thinking of Spitzer and how history repeats itself.
There as a vary good piece on Cuomo in the NY Post today. The author, who is a political commentator, doesn’t think Cuomo is going to resign or be impeached because too many politicians and businesses owe him.
He is in charge of doling out the infrastructure “stimulus” money and they’ve already lined up to get it and they don’t want to make Andy mad.
New York AG Letitia James has her own axe to grind. She wants Andrew Cuomo out of the way so she may run for Governor of New York herself. This is not fair political debate, it is the politics of personal destruction, a primary weapon used by many of the most strident of competitors for the relatively few slots available for despotic types to exert their will over the “great unwashed” they hold in such low regard.
Andrew Cuomo may or may not be guilty of the behavior he has been charged with, and Lord knows there is a much larger body of graft and malfeasance of office on which to go after him. But much as the charges against Bill Clinton were narrowed down to what were essentially sexual misbehavior of mostly meaningless value as regards ability to govern, the other potential charges are simply overlooked.
Mebe the Cuomo brothers can take up painting and sculping art.....
Cuomo doles out infrastructure money
Fauxi doles out “research” grants.
Thus, they own companies, scientists, universities.
They get these entities to do things forbidden to governments
sounds kinda Facist to me
This is exactly what I heard as I watched a clip of this son of "sfaccime" yesterday.
That and wiring money to overseas accounts to pay for them.
TOTALLY CORRUPT and IN YOUR FACE CORRUPT!
Mark
Former Governor of New York
I think Cuomo is the type that if he is forced to leave office, he will burn everything down on his way out. He gets even with people he perceives as enemies and is usually ruthless about it. To him, this is a political assassination and he will respond in his mafia style way.
Indeed. And what bribery won’t do, fear does.
I think you’re 100% correct. That’s what they’re all afraid of. The author of the NY Post article that I mentioned, Bob McManus, wrote that he has no friends but plenty of allies, because he was his father’s “principal kneecapper” and is ruthless in a way that makes people scared not to support him.
I’d be really surprised if he resigns or if the legislature has the guts to impeach him. I think he’ll ride it out, like all Dems, and probably run for office again and nobody will remember a thing about this “incident.” That’s Dems for you.
That is exactly what I hope for.
