The reason for this is simple:
1. Americans want to be able to travel wherever they want but don't want to spend money on anything that doesn't translate directly to a tangible service that benefits them personally (like an airline ticket).
2. Infrastructure is a very low priority for most people because they don't want to invest a penny in anything that's still going to be there after they are gone.
I’m fine with a reasonable tax load that pays for keeping proper infrastructure. It is just that the feds don’t use the money they tax for its supposed use.
My take is that too many *billions* were siphoned off for ‘inner city mass transit’ that has **nothing** to do with highways but plenty yo do with political pork spending.
You have a dim view of Americans.
You also seem to think Americans aren’t taxed enough for infrastructure.
The U.S. government will let the nation’s highway infrastructure crumble to sh!t before they ever implement something like this.
The reason for this is simple:
1. Americans want
/ since when has .gov done a damn thing Americans want. Your logic fails./
to be able to travel wherever they want but don’t want to spend money on anything that doesn’t translate directly to a tangible service that benefits them personally (like an airline ticket).
/ maybe, maybe not. But the fact is we get gas taxed up the butt and the work never seems to get done./
2. Infrastructure is a very low priority for most people because they don’t want to invest a penny in anything that’s still going to be there after they are gone.
/ maybe that’s how you roll,
but ‘ most’ people
aren’t selfish shortsighted libtards in my opinion/

You are quite the piece of work is another opinion of mine.
So.....
Bless your heart.
Gas taxes should be paying for infrastructure. Where is the return on investment?
This isn’t a ploy to pay for it. $6trillion dollars in pork and this so they can make endroads into restricting personal liberty.
“Ah helped!”
It won’t pay the bills.
And yes, people with electric cars should have to pay road taxes. But don’t tax my home’s electricity and don’t make gasoline powered drivers pay twice (with gas taxes and mileage taxes).
Project much?
It couldn't possibly be because Americans know that government is the greediest, most corrupt and murderous force on Earth and that most of the money goes to lavish salaries, perks and pensions for the bureaucrats, could it?
There are thousands of government employees getting 6-figure pensions on the East and Left coasts.
In my own state the government slugs talk like you, but the reason we won't vote for another gas tax increase is because the previous increases have NEVER gone to roads. They go into the bureaucrat wet dream slush fund.
People aren't as stupid as you wish they were.
