The modern iteration of the National Rifle Association as a political force opposed to any measure of gun safety was familiar to Fred Guttenberg even before his 14-year-old daughter, Jaime, was killed along with 16 others at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland, Florida, on 14 February 2018.
The group’s response to Parkland was the same as after 26 people, including 20 children, were killed at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012, the same as after the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, after Sutherland Springs, after Pulse Nightclub, amid gun violence that claims 100 lives a day in the US: the only solution to gun violence is more guns, everywhere. Or, to quote the NRA’s longtime executive vice-president, Wayne LaPierre, following Sandy Hook: “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”
The day after his daughter was killed, a distraught Guttenberg attempted to put words to the unfathomable at a vigil. “My job is to protect my children,” he said, voice cracking, “and I sent my kid to school,” where Jaime was supposed to be safe.

1981, Actress Lee Grant on GMA screams...”THE NRA IS A RIFLE ORGANIZATION! THEY SHOULD GIVE UP THEIR HANDGUNS AND THEY CAN KEEP THEIR RIFLES!”
1984, they made a grab for the rifles, and missed, but played their hand.
1988,Josh Sugarmann, of the National Council to Ban Handguns tells how to ban rifles.
“Assault weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over

—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine
gun— can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on
these weapons.”

Gun owners now know that any time we negotiate with those who want to ban guns, we are up against a stacked deck.

The left's public stance on guns is a simple truism: If you have no guns, no crime will be committed with guns.
Of course, the same holds true for rocks, knives, hands and feet.
Guns are a 500 year old technology which is here to stay.
The number of legal guns has no relationship to the number of murders or illegal guns; the number of illegal guns likewise has no relationship to the number of murders.
Those on the left, when they have brief moments of honesty, admit the purpose of reducing the number of legal guns is to increase government power.
The left hates any restraint on government power with a passion.

It's sad, and I feel for you. But me giving up my guns won't solve a thing but make me more vulnerable to real criminals and psychos.

Well, neither do I. The “day after” those stooges turn in their guns, is of course, never going to happen.
However, as the number of illegal aliens has increased over the decades, so has the number of murders (I think).
