Through five days of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, NBC’s average primetime audience of 15.2 million viewers is down 47% from Rio in 2016 and 57% from London in 2012. The opening ceremony, delayed a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, drew 16.7 million viewers for NBC on Friday, the smallest audience for the network broadcast since the 1988 Seoul Games.
"We had a little bit of bad luck and this drumbeat of negativity," Shell said during an earnings call with investors.
Earlier this week, Outkick founder Clay Travis told Fox News that a variety of issues are plaguing the Tokyo games.
I think there are many reasons why this Olympics is tanking compared to past Olympics. I think certainly the fact that it's occurring in Japan with no fans and with absurdly ridiculous COVID protocols that allow athletes to compete without masks, but then have to put on masks on the medal stand. I think all of those things work against the overall American audience for the Olympics," Travis said.

I used to like to watch the Olympics.
So that's what happened to Baghdad Bob.
That’s because they already locked-in the advertising contracts.
But every other NBC show for the next four years will lose money as they take the hit for having to show a couple minutes of “free” commercials as payback for the advertisers’ guaranteed ratings during the Olympics.
I notice their never-ending Olympic ads show athletes draped in the American flag. Too little too late.
I just avoid al nbc networks completely.
I've watched some, but I cut the cord so they didn't make any money off of it.
Meetings would be a lot shorter if they would just mention karma once in awhile.
Does it even matter if they are profitable? I keep waiting for something to go broke from getting woke. Looks like it could be a while.

Clay Travis is a windbag and will never be able to hold Rush’s audience. The real reason the the ratings are down is because American citizens are sick and tired of so many brats supposedly representing the USA while bashing the USA. I love sports but I will not watch the olympics.
What else is the guy going to say? “My product is selling at a loss but we’ll make it up in volume”?
Using my principal but exact opposite of every news story is the truth… lol. They are losing money badly, badly enough that they put this story out for investor management reasons.
I never really watched for rooting on the USA, although I was just as thrilled about the Miracle on Ice as anyone, because it was just a great story, period.
Frankly, many athletes who compete for other countries live and train in the US.
That’s why I propose that instead of marching under their nations’ flags, they should be marching under the flag of the US University they attended, LOL!

I make it a point to avoid sport telecasts.
I’ve watched about 5 minutes of it in a hotel room. Then sayonara via the remote switch. At home I cut the Dish cord in June and don’t miss that either.
