Simone Biles has withdrawn from her third individual apparatus final of the Olympics, leaving only one event where she can choose to compete.
Biles on Sunday withdrew from the floor exercise final, which was scheduled for Monday, U.S.A. Gymnastics said in a statement. She had previously said that she would not compete in the uneven bars or vault finals, which are scheduled for Sunday night.
Her last potential event in the Tokyo Games would be the balance beam, and U.S.A. Gymnastics said she would make a decision soon.
“Either way, we’re all behind you, Simone,” the organization said in a statement.
MyKayla Skinner, another American, will take Biles’s place in the vault final. On the floor exercise, Jennifer Gadirova of Britain will move into Biles’s spot.
Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, was expected to repeat as all-around champion, but she withdrew from the all-around and the team final last week, citing mental health issues. She said that she was not mentally prepared to compete and that she was also dealing with a common gymnastics problem of her losing bearings while performing daring maneuvers in the air.
She exited the team final after the vault, and was in the stands to watch her teammate Sunisa Lee win the all-around. Lee was the fifth straight American woman to win that event, following Carly Patterson in 2004, Nastia Liukin in 2008, Gabby Douglas in 2012 and Biles in 2016.
Lee’s next chance at a medal will be on Sunday in the uneven bars, her best event.

Maybe not directly but they, yes along with her parents, bear some responsibility for this girl's breakdown. They most likely pushed and pushed with no regard for the kids emotional well being. This is all about the parents and coaches ego gratification. What a previous poster said about the coaches (and parents) pushing her is most likely true. Gymnastics is notorious for creating that type of environment. Ditto for figure skating. And don't get me started on the number some dads do on their sons with football and hockey.

My thoughts too . She was probably broken long before the Olympics. She should have let another compete.
So, she’s out of the floor exercise, but might do the balance beam? I’m thinking she won’t. Or might hurt herself worse than she could have by doing floor competition.

I’m sure she didn’t just come to this decision so all she did was totally distract her other teammates and ruin the opportunity for someone else to compete in her place.

If you aren’t even 100% ready mentally, physically, and emotionally, performing at this level can kill you.
She is doing the right thing.
Yup. I would never put my kid in this ‘sport’. Or let them be a child actor. Bad parenting, kid will get wrecked.
And if you are wealthy or in politics...is anyone in politics not wealthy..make sure you you fully vet anyone who is caring for your kids...including their tutors..
Otherwise,they will likely end up leftist’s loons.
Why not just withdraw from everything at once and be done with it?

That is exactly what I was thinking about when I wrote. I even remember the word Rush used to describe that behavior.
He said the media was so “desirous” to have McNabb be seen as successful that they would exhalt every completed pass as a major achievement.
The same is true with Simone, as well as any other black who manages to do well.
Just as an aside, I’ve noticed recently that the rarest human to appear in a commercial are white men.
The order of priority seems to be - blacks first by far, mulattos next, darkish Latino next, then white women, then Asians, and brining up the rear are white men.
The ironic, actually “sad and tragic” would be better terms is that most of these ads are probably ordered and created by white men.
One of the reasons I rarely watch US commercial TV anymore.
And really that wasn't fair to McNabb, just as the media isn't being fair to Biles. She's not the problem here.
Well she wants to drag the attention on herself for a long as possible, so she had to withdraw from these events one at a time.
She seems pretty screwed up to me.
