A toxic blaze at the site of Australia's largest Tesla battery project is set to burn throughout the night.
A 13-tonne lithium battery was engulfed in flames, which then spread to an adjacent battery bank.
More than 150 people from Fire Rescue Victoria and the Country Fire Authority responded to the blaze, which has been contained and will be closely monitored until it burns itself out.
"If we try and cool them down it just prolongs the process," the CFA's Assistant Chief Fire Officer Ian Beswicke said.
"But we could be here anywhere from 8 to 24 hours while we wait for it to burn down."

Which is a shame. They are backwards and wrong about them. But I think the oil companies helped in that with lobbying. In no way do oil companies want “fuel economy and efficiency”.
The EPA has driven many good things out pf production.
EPA is a political group, full of green progressives, and as is usual with proggie thinking, their choices often/usually have negative unintended consequences.
But, it felt good at the time, and they celebrated another ‘victory’ over the unwashed, ungreen masses.
To store ‘green’ electricity for calm days.
Are the Flames Green ?
In other news, Samsung just announced their "lifetime-charged" new cell phone. "While there are some portability issues at this point, we're working hard to resolve the problem soon."
Absolutely, they have no concept of cause and effect at all.
What is a battery weighing 13 tons used for?
Grid backup usually. Or some fool company wasting money on a giant UPS rather than a generator.
Future maybe?
After the Biden administration got all gas and diesel vehicles in Washington DC replaced with electric vehicles, a fire broke out in one of them and quickly spread to other electric vehicles. It spread so quickly that Congress and all other government offices including the FBI and DOJ were destroyed. All government employees in those facilities were laid off and will probably not be reinstated until the buildings are rebuilt .... in about 10 years.
A 13 tonne battery??? I always wondered what size battery it would take to get one of Elon Musk’s rockets into space.
Economy model. Double occupancy...
Lol...
3 more and Tennessee Ernie Ford could make a new song out of this.
Wallaby wallaby wallaby. No worries mate! Wallaby wallaby wallaby. You Bruce’s and Sheila’s got nuthing to worry about. Wallaby wallaby! Not big enough to cause concern,(yet). Wallaby wallaby. Plenty more lithium in that huge friggen wallaby lithium mine we got right over there to cause any worries! Wallaby!!
Very inconsiderate for one in the middle to catch fire.
Probably not, it would have to be barium, manganese, molybdenum, copper or boron to burn green, the article says it’s a lithium battery so it should burn hot pink.

They dont call em Runaway Thermal Events for nuthin. Whoever figrs out how to make a non flammable lithium is gonna rule the industry.
Interestingly enough, most of which are both.
May I ask exactly what you mean? My own comment of Diesel “over” electric means the tried and proven efficiency of diesel engines driving generators to drive electric motors which I have studied in depth.
No batteries needed at all. We should have adopted this principle with automobiles and trucks 50 years ago. There is a very good reason why this is still the standard with locomotives.
There have been a very few arrangements like this produced and sold in mass, but they are Gasoline driven and not diesel driven. With only half the efficiency a diesel would be in the same arrangement.
New diesel technology can now make a diesel run just as clean as a gasoline engine with almost twice the mileage. But we refuse to allow this arrangement to be used in this country.
Interesting future history. One thing, though. I’d use “furloughed with pay “ rather than “laid off.”
