WASHINGTON D.C.: Following the closing of the nation's schools during the Covid pandemic, more than 11 percent of all households are choosing to homeschool their children and not return them to public schools.
The U.S. Census Bureau reported in March that by September 2020, more than 11 percent of all households were homeschooling their children, more than doubling from 5.4 percent six months earlier.
Some parents have said they will homeschool because their children have special educational needs. Other parents are looking for their children to be educated with a faith-based curriculum or say their public schools are flawed.
However, many parents are saying they began homeschooling as a temporary measure during the lockdown, and later found it to be beneficial to their children.
"That's one of the silver linings of the pandemic - I don't think we would have chosen to homeschool otherwise," Danielle King of Randolph, Vermont, told the Associated Press.
King said her 7-year-old daughter seemed to thrive with the flexible, one-on-one instruction. Also, while at home she has studied literature, anatomy, even archaeology, and participated in outdoor excursions to search for fossils.
Of note, Black households saw the largest increase in homeschooling, rising from 3.3 percent in the spring of 2020 to 16.1 percent in the fall.

Can confirm. As of March, homeschooling in the US was up 100% (to about 10m) by one survey, up to 20m by another.

I just finished three homeschool conventions-—Austin, Phoenix, and Jacksonville. Did the best day of business ever after Phoenix when orders came in. Jacksonville was slower than in 2019 though. Still, our homeschool-related business has been up two straight years.
It is already there according to David Nunnery, CEO of “Teach Them Diligently,” one of the two big homeschool convention planners.
This is the way of the modern Democrat. Make a new rule, a new law, a new path, and the unintended consequences will bite them where it hurts most.
Barbara Boxer tows the line on defunding police, and gets mugged. The more visible is when Harry Reid got rid of the need for 60 votes for judges, and Trump went to town by putting hundreds of judges into hundreds of offices. And because of Reid, the Democrats could not stop it. I assume this is why no one really is fighting to get rid of the filibuster, or to add to the Supreme Court. They know they could be out of power and Trump or another like him could use their changes to really whack them hard.
Great news.
The Country desperately needs a new education paradigm — and not something exclusive to home schooling.
Two of my neighbor's adult children homeschool their kids and went to the Austin convention. They're raising Americans, not Democrats. What do you sell at the conventions if you don't mind me asking?
