Former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb predicted early Wednesday that the United States could get through the worst of the delta variant surge of the coronavirus in a few weeks.
"The bottom line is, the vaccine does not make you impervious to infection," Gottlieb said during an appearance on CNBC. "There are some people who are developing mild and asymptomatic infections even after vaccination."
After acknowledging the delta variant of the coronavirus as "much more transmissible" than the first strain, Gottlieb questioned whether that fact should "translate into general guidance" on mask wearing and vaccine requirements in the United States.

This is exactly correct
1. Delta is far more transmissible and therefore will go through more quickly
2. Vaccination breakthrough occurs rarely but vaccination prevents critical illness or death
3. At the conclusion of this there will be here immunity as the number of vaccinated plus natural immunity will stymie further transmission
This is what I have been saying as well as delta has taken hold and this is exactly what we are seeing in hospitals.
This is the real science and leads to logical and data driven conclusions. At this point masking is political. I do not believe in mandatory vaccine. People have the information. They can roll the dice either way but this pandemic will come to a conclusion as all pandemics do. Vaccination has made a difference in accelerating herd immunity and preventing death.
