The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on Monday become the first federal agency to require its frontline health care workers to be vaccinated.
President Joe Biden confirmed the move in a brief statement to reporters Monday afternoon.
'Yes. Veteran Affairs is going to in fact require that all docs working in facilities are going to have to be vaccinated,' Biden said, following a report quoting his Veterans Affairs secretary regarding health care workers at the VA.
115,000 staffers will have two months to get inoculated against the coronavirus, and face being fired if they do not oblige.
President Biden confirmed that 'all docs' at the VA would be asked to get the shot ahead of his meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi in the Oval Office.
Denis McDonough, the secretary of veterans affairs, told the New York Times: 'I am doing this because it’s the best way to keep our veterans safe, full stop.
He added that the mandates would apply to the employees who have the most contact with patients.
This includes doctors, dentists, nurses, physicians assistants and physical therapists at VA medical centers across the country.
The Biden administration has so far been unwilling to back federal vaccine mandates, and has insisted it is up to private companies.
The move came after White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the White House 'supports the steps of hospitals' to require staff to get vaccinated, saying it 'could be a guide for us on what to do with our own workforce here from the federal government.'
She noted there are 'certain powers' that the federal government has, and 'certain powers that the federal government does not have.'

I was born in Southeast Asia in the fifties.
Cost-benefit analysis says the balance of risk for people over fifty justifies vaccination. All else should not be pressed to take them, as it requires accepting greater risks than it mitigates.
This is not a simple rhetorical issue, it is real and it is complex. Both sides on this do not treat the problem seriously, it is all or nothing, in a very stupid way.
It could very well be the Mark of the Beast. Our previous interpretation of the symbology is not surviving contact with the actual End Times. Remember this happened the first time. Very few understood John’s ministry, and they certainly misunderstood Jesus’ ministry.

It is reasonable to do so for some categories of employment, such as being in close proximity to large numbers of old, sick people.
One is not required to be employed in those areas however.
The VA vaccinated me back in January and February. This makes sense to me. Vaccines are one of the true medical miracles I can’t imagine what life today would be like without the small pox, polio, tetanus and other vaccines, on thing is for sure though a lot of the old farts alive today would have been dead long ago without them...
Refusing to be vaccinated because of one’s politics seems to me to be a IQ test in disguise...

Just a response to those who think doctors or nurses are not vaccinated, in the small hospital where I work, most (if not all) of the docs had covid and all of them are vaccinated. The nurses, all the older ones are vaccinated, several of the younger ones chose not to and understandably so because several females are of child bearing age and choose to not take a chance. That is their right and I am glad our hospital is not requiring it.
I find it difficult to believe anyone over the age of 65 would not get the vaccine but I understand why younger people would not.
I’m sure I’ll hear the reason why this vaccine is the mark of the beast when all other vaccines were not. :)

If the majority are vaccinated with a vaccine that actually works, how necessary is it for the minority to get vaccinated?
Not directed at me but I will make a comment: My service connected disability (Vietnam) qualifys me for full health care benefits. Everything except dental. No co-pay. I have an appointment with the optometrist next week. They won't buy really expensive frames. I think the credit for frames is $200. The exam is free, as I said, like everything, except dental.
And...as luck would have it, the dentist in our little town gives free exams and cleaning to veterans once a year.
The VA covers a lot more than medicare.

I don't know about 0% or non-service connected disabled veterans benefits.
I was, of course, not implying these were all deaths although there are many thousands of those in completely unprecedented numbers. Many times more thousands have been injured either temporarily or permanently and the numbers are mindboggling huge. Yet the long term effects are still unknown and unlikely to be known for years. That jury is still out on that but a lot of doctors and researchers are ringing the alarm bells for future and even larger disasters to life and limb because of these "vaccines".
I stand by my statements. It is un-American to require anybody to take these experimental drugs against their will.

Today I made the decision after 12 years in ancillary support of healthcare to leave the industry. The direction HC is headed is not compatible with my religious beliefs nor my moral standards.
It is true that HC has been in the sewer for some time now. The money is good but it rots the soul. Like almost every industry it is compromised by evil, greedy megalomaniacs.
I expect to see a cascade of these mandates in the next 60 days. The dam is about to break and if you’re in the field you had better have a life preserver!
Trump turned the VA around, or at least made significant progress over the past. Biden cannot let that stand now, can he????

IMHO, my considered opinion is that its is not very necessary. The US SHOULD already be well armored against any large mortality from covid at this point, given the numbers already vaccinated and who have already had covid, etc. The cost-benefit argument is probably quite negative.

Last August I was contacted by the VA and now I have new glasses. I saw an ophthalmogist, not an optometrist, and he did a thorough exam. I had no idea I was qualified for eye glasses.
