DOJ to send gun trafficking strike forces to 5 U.S. cities

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said his new Justice Department is focusing on five American cities to tackle illegal gun trafficking. On Thursday, while in Chicago, the official announced he’s sending gun trafficking strike forces to the Democrat-led cities of Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco and Washington D.C.

In a statement, the attorney general noted, “all too often guns found at crime scenes come from hundreds or thousands of miles away.” The strike forces represent a bolstering of federal and local law enforcement seeking to disrupt the flow of unlawfully obtained firearms to the places they are ultimately used to commit crimes.

“We are going to try to focus as much of our attention on these problems, not only in Chicago, but in the rest of the country which is also experiencing similar problems,” Garland stated. “And we’re going to try and mesh it up with grants for communities to, as I said, prevent violence, to interrupt violence and to provide the kind of relationship between the police and community necessary to build trust.”

This has been tried many times for the last 30 years or so. Without success.

How about we try a different approach.

Identify every citizen in the area to be covered. If that citizen is of legal age and is not a prohibited person, offer voluntary membership in the following program:

Issue a gun to that citizen
provide gun safety and range time.
Require them to maintain possession of that firearm (no lending, no selling, etc as the firearm belongs to the state)
Show, present the firearm upon demand of a LEO

IOW, adopt the Swiss model. After all, they have the lowest gun crime rate per citizen.

DOJ strike forces? Why couldn’t we have those for assisting enforcement of borer control during Trump’s administration?

Trump offered it a year ago but that little toad wart of a mayor told him to F off.

Watch for Garland’s rangers to set up stings, entrapments and anything else the devious bastards can dream up to nail Cabelas, Bass Pro etc for straw sales.

Aren’t most of those places “sanctuary cities”?

If they hadn’t defunded the police, they could have had their own “strike force.”

Defund the local police and send in the feds. This is exactly what they want.

People say “Oh Boy!!!!! They are finally gonna do something!!!”

Then sadly they realize after a few months, nothing has changed and things remain as they were except more money thrown to the wolves...

= = =

Well, Duh.

Springfield, Mass
Hartford, Conn
Prescott, AZ
Southern Austria
Czech Republic

Most of those are 1000s of miles from me.

So, to keep the origin close to the user, make it yourself.

“all too often guns found at crime scenes come from hundreds or thousands of miles away.”

Every gun I own came from hundreds or thousands of miles away, but yet I've never committed a gun crime. There must be some other factor in the current crime wave. I wonder what it might be?

What about the elderly woman with a walker who just got hammered on the head with a frying pan?

Gotta go after frying pans. Knives, fists - what else?

I have no fear of a Government that trusts it’s law abiding citizens with weapons, and neutral on subsidizing those weapons.

This is going to be real interesting to watch. In this country we truly have a “gang problem,” and not a “gun violence problem.”

In most large cities, Democrats are advocating to reduce police budgets and to keep criminals out of jail. For example no bail required for “poor people” is one such approach. Another is for taking arrested people and channeling them into “community courts” that do not involve actual court records and actual jail time. Of course when you do that, you keep them out of the FBI firearm instant check system.

Then again in many large cities controlled by Democrats you have a concept of plea bargaining down from felony to misdemeanor crimes. This lowers the cost of the local DA and improves his conviction rate. It also allows felons to escape serious jail time and some to avoid being registered in the FBI instant-check system.

Where I live near Seattle, very, very few criminals are charged with the federal “felon in possession of a firearm” crime that can add 7 to 10 years to their sentence. I have never been able to get a straight answer.

Again, I bet that there will soon be howls from the NAACP, the ACLU, BLM, and a host of activist groups that this Biden DOJ program is racist as it disproportionately targets Blacks. I can't wait.

Whatever happened to Barr’s programs to reduce gun violence, specifically in Chicago, and other high crime areas?
