Right....Electric cars are great except...for.... the batteries and charging times..
“Where is all this electric coming from? “
No worries, when all the sheep are driving EV’s they will just cut the power supply so you can’t go anywhere.
Yeah well... so what?
Millions of personal generators to be sold soon, just so they can move thier car out of the driveway
Forgive me, but isn’t that too late as per AOC’s prediction of only 9 or 10 years left for humanity?
There are no zero emission vehicles. The emissions are just produced at the power stations rather by the vehicle directly.
Since we’ll all be underwater by then...perhaps submarines will be the preferred vehicle. /s
This is confusing to me. EVs have a small place in transportation, but going totally to EVs seems not well thought out.
The load on the grid.
The load on Lithium mines.
Mileage on a single charge.
Charging times.
Cost.
I suppose the manufacturers have determined that the indoctrinated are numerous, and will buy EVs no matter what because it “saves the planet”.
Just like our march to communism, this won’t end well.
—”Where is all this electric coming from? “
AOC and Joe the jamoke have that covered!
Not to worry.
All manufacturing and any other sources of pollution will be done in China.
No additional power sources are needed.
Most if not all predictions, 15 years out are clickbait.
BULLSHIT!!
Yes, of course. The greenies will demand it. But the power to charge them will not be there. So by 2037 horse-drawn cars will be all the rage.
this is my thought, too, as California has blackouts because of too much demand. Third world country $hi... and yet they are continuing to go down that road with no plan.
That means that if you think of your gas tank as a battery that stores energy, and if you think of the pump of a generator that is the source of that energy, the gas pump is the equivalent of a Diesel engine capable of powering a freight locomotive.
That's equivalent mechanical energy. I'm not counting the thermal waste energy, because that's basically the same whether your car engine is generating the shaft power, or some electric power plant somewhere is generating the shaft power.
So now, think of this: if it were possible to load a full charge into a car battery as fast as the tank can be filled from a normal gas pump, and if the battery could hold as much equivalent mechanical energy as does the gas tank in your car, you would need the generating capacity of a 4000 hp Diesel for every pump in every gas station. That power generation capacity would have to be there 24-7 for every gas station in the country.
The way it’s going, horses and bicycles will outsell autos by then.

More power to them

But I'm in a rare situation where I have plenty of solar power on my home. It produces most of the power I consume. We'll never get completely off of fossil fuels like the Dims claim. But in certain situations like mine solar on an individual home can be pretty useful and pay for itself. And it frees me from the Dims messing up our power to save us from the carbon sins they routinely condemn us over.
When my solar has paid for itself in 10 or so years (assuming a moderate inflation rate on the kWh charge, but the Dims might change that and make my solar system pay for itself sooner with their energy policies) I'll probably put the excess it saves me aside to repair it and upgrade it. I already produce on some days more power than I consume and store in batteries. So if I had an EV that excess power would go to the EV. Right now that's not much, definitely not worth getting an EV over now. But if EV's keep improving and if I improve my solar system with the money it saves me, I can see myself one day buying a used EV and powering it with mostly free energy.
I'll definitely keep a gas car for long trips and other issues with EV's (i.e. in the winter I don't collect much solar because we can go a week or two with nothing but rain, thus powering the EV from the grid might be more expensive than gassing up an ICE car). Maybe my wife has a gas car we use for our long trips and her daily chores she does without me while I have an EV truck for the chores I do for the family and the church (and going to work if I'm not retired by then, but I live close enough to my job that one nice solar day can charge it for a week). And if the Dims try to control us by taking away our gas (or make it really hard to obtain with taxes or whatever), it won't impact me if I have an EV. If the Dims try to make all fossil fuels illegal it won't impact me as much if I produce most of my own power.
But solar power works only if you live in the south where we have plenty of sunshine and where most of our power consumption is the A/C and not the heater. That's significant because most of our A/C use is during the daytime part of the day (when the sun is out) and during the hottest parts of the year (when the sun is out for longer periods). You have to have no trees shading your roof. And it's best if you have a roof facing the south. It also works only if you make or buy a customized system specifically for your needs and power consumption habits -- not the one-size-fits-all type green energy "solutions" the Dims force onto us.
This could happen. If there is enough pressure on manufacturers, that’s all that they will produce. We really won’t have a say.
Too late! We only have seven more years to save the planet!
I just learned that two regional coal fired power plants are being shut down. The date was pushed out for some reason.
At the same time the combustion turbine fueled by naturals gas failed. That plant is now off line.
Years ago on a 200 MW prototype project we were told the machine (combustion turbine) would be shipped even though the ceramic coating on the vanes was failing testing. The machine repair would be covered by warranty.
I suspect all of the combustion turbines in the US may have a limited life much less than the long life of steam turbines due to the ceramic coatings on the vanes.
Add to that the Chinese bought the combustion turbine business located in Mykolaiv, Ukraine and moved it and the employees to China. They made marine units.
Now consider Trump fired the head of TVA for buying electrical equipment made in China. How long before Chinese combustion turbines end up in US power plants?
Understand why the electrical grid will become more unreliable in the future.
