First lady Jill Biden appeared at the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony on Friday, wearing a mask as she joined just a handful of world leaders at the stadium closed to the public over the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biden, 70, wore a blue mask to go along with her black-and-white polka dot dress and long pearl necklace as she represented the US in her first solo international trip as first lady.

President Biden’s wife was joined by the few world leaders who made the trip to Japan for the opening ceremony in a nearly empty National Stadium.

I see Jill went from 70's couch print dresses to zebra... and I am sure she is happy not being in the WH doing airplane noises to feed Joe lunch.

I know money isn’t always the most important factor, but, they have to be taking a financial bath, with no audiences allowed, and no foreign tourists visiting Japan for the games.

The Japanese are xenophobic even in normal times. They’ve banned a blind & deaf paralympian’s personal assistant (her mother) from coming. They couldn’t stop the Olympics or the Paralympics outright, but they’re pleased there’s no influx of foreigners apart from the athletes, coaches, and staff. The lost revenue is of no consequence to them.

Well, if they don’t care about the lost revenue and business opportunities, then that aspect of things is a non issue. And here I thought this was a major disaster, financially, for Japan to not have foreign visitors for the Olympics.

Let’s just say that the Japanese can’t be thrilled with the choice to light the flame.
