Cases of plague have been confirmed in animals and fleas in six counties in Colorado — including where a 10-year-old girl died earlier this month after suffering plague-like symptoms, according to a report.
Lab tests confirmed the disease in fleas in La Plata County, where the tragic girl lived, according to CBS 4 Denver.
Plague was also detected in San Miguel, El Paso, Boulder, Huerfano and Adams counties, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment told the outlet.

Ain’t illegal immigration grand?
Actually, that area of the US has been a known plague reservoir for the past century. Nothing to do with illegal immigration; the Four Corners area just has it due to the native rodent populations.
Now, the dengue and more exotic diseases starting to appear in the US *are* the result of illegal immigration and should be looked at...

“Plague is endemic to the area.” And so are all the other fun viruses and diseases that are rodent borne.
Huh? Plague is endemic to the American southwest and frontal range of the Rockies. The reservoir for the hosts are small mammals in that region where the fleas live on them. Prairie dogs, chipmunks, skunks being the main vector for plague fleas. Illegal immigrants had zero to do with plague that has been in that region for at least ten thousand years there is fossil evidence of human plague deaths in native Americans.
I see.
Thanks for the info.
No, plague pops up there from time to time. I don’t remember it happening in Mexico.
Mexico has other plagues, just not THE plague. :P
No problem. As much fun as it can be to blame illegal immigration for every disease, it’s usually a good idea to check if that’s the actual cause first, or if it is something native to an area.
FYI, there are a LOT of diseases endemic to specific parts of the US, and I don’t mean diseases like Trump Derangement Syndrome or liberalism. All the rodent-borne stuff in the Four Corners area, the Southeast has outbreaks of cholera and giardia and all kinds of fun swamp diseases... The list goes on and on. We just don’t need *additional* imported diseases.
Good Lord! The Biden Administration MUST give Pfizer a massive grant to develop a vaccine with due haste! It MUST be rolled out and mandatory for anyone who might possibly be living near a rodent, or where a rodent might have been in the past 30 days. We’re all in this together!
Time for the bring out yer dead thing.
Covid, monkeypox, plague ... aren’t Democrats great?
In unusually dry weather, the rodents head into town looking for water.
With rattle snakes close behind.
Nature, and all that. Mind your step.
“...where the tragic girl lived”
Had to jam that action packed comic book adjective in there somehow.
Cats. Nature’s rodent hunter
If you look at a map of bubonic plague areas, Madagascar’s continues to have cases, so many that scientists go there to study.
But there are cases that pop up occasionally around the Dakotas/Montana area.
Gotta protect those prairie dogs.
Time for the bring out yer dead thing.Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
