A man who engaged in non-violent protest at the Capitol on January 6 was sentenced to eight months in prison for obstructing an official proceeding, while hundreds charged in violent riots last summer have seen their cases dropped.
Paul Allard Hodgkins, 38, of Tampa, Florida, was sentenced Monday after he pleaded guilty to a single felony count of obstructing an official proceeding, after he was identified in videos and photos inside the Senate chamber carrying a Trump 2020 flag.
While the count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, and prosecutors asked for 18 months, Hodgkins — who did not engage in any violence or property damage — received eight months, the longest punishment of three sentenced so far.
U.S. District Court Judge Randolph Moss told Hodgkins, “Although you were only one member of a larger mob, you actively participated in a larger event that threatened the Capitol and democracy itself.”
“The damage that was caused that way was way beyond a several-hour delay of the vote certification,” Moss added. “It is a damage that will persist in this country for several decades.”
Meanwhile, hundreds of people who were arrested in connection with riots last summer have seen their charges dismissed. According to a June 2021 analysis of New York Police Department data by NBC New York, there were 485 arrests in Manhattan, but 222 had their cases were dropped and 73 got lesser counts. Another 40 cases involved juveniles and were sent to family court, and 128 cases remained open. In the Bronx, of 118 arrests made, 73 cases were dismissed, 18 cases remained open, and there were only 19 convictions on counts like trespassing that carried no jail time.

And the rest of American sits by and lets it happen.
I still don’t see what the big deal about an angry mob storming the US Capitol, infiltrating the chambers of congress, destroying public property, and posting about how they intend to kill senior government officials is? Like doesn’t that happen all the time?
Who pays for that building? Who pays the salaries of the people in that building? The fact is that man has as much righ to be in that building as the senators and representatives. That judge should be impeached.
Remember when the US Congress / House of Representatives was known as “The People’s House”? Guess that is in our rear-view mirrors now! 6 January was an unforced error on our part (conservatives & libertarians) BUT it has become a GLARING DEMONSTRATION of the intolerance by those who consider themselves as our SUPERIORS!
How do you feel about a massive conspiracy to defraud the entire country with millions of phony votes, alterations and deletions, all to put an incompetent, unpopular demented old man in the Presidency as a figurehead?
The only attack on Democracy was that one. “Judge” Moss is a moron prattling BS platitudes as he sentences a man to prison for seeking honest elections.
Lawyer;
“had an absolutely miniscule … role in [the events of Jan. 6]. Mr. Hodgkins was not involved in any way, shape or form, with violence toward anyone in law enforcement. Mr. Hodgkins was not involved in any way, shape or form with any property damage done to the Capitol. Mr. Hodgkins never touched a single item within the Capitol building itself. His sole participation simply included walking into the building, onto the floor of the United States Senate, and leaving the same building, all within a 15-minute period of time.
15 minutes of fame will get you 8 months in prison. Gainfully employed blue collar and was an Eagle Scout when younger. Amerika
Will I get hunted down for donating? They’re only asking for $500 so he’ll have money for the commissary. Surprised gofundme hasn’t killed it yet.
PS to All: the judge that did this is an Obama judge, and is also the guy who made this ruling:
“On March 1, 2020 Moss ruled that President Donald Trump unlawfully installed Ken Cuccinelli as acting Director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and that therefore, certain directives related to removal of undocumented immigrants seeking asylum he implemented “must be set aside.” “
Straight up judge shopping by the prosecutors to get a far left deranged “judge” who has a long history of judicial activism working for the Rats.
They may take it down... but I feel for the guy.
“...and democracy itself.”
Good. I’m tired of this “democracy” crap. We are not, and never have been, a democracy. We should all be a threat to “democracy”. We are a Constitutional Republic, and so shall we remain if I have anything to say about it.
“It is a damage that will persist in this country for several decades.”
And the irony is this:
They will prosecute a man who did very little in an over media supplied lie about the protest while we don’t even know the name of the person who actually shot someone to death inside the building with no legal grounds to do so and it’s on tape and was accomplished right in front of law enforcement.

“It is a damage that will persist in this country for several decades.”
Stupid drama queen ahole judge. The reality is 90% of Americans know this is being whipped into the crime of the century for purely political reasons.
>> And the rest of American sits by and lets it happen.
The media is ignoring... correction, ATT, Comcast, and Disney are actively hiding the political persecution.
Yeah, I’m surprised the media isn’t publicizing this more. A vast majority of Americans would turtle up and do whatever they were told. Pretty much 2020 in a non-ending loop.
And none of the Kavanaugh protesters were even charged. Didn’t they interfere with an official proceeding?
This is a war between those who want “democracy” and those who want to keep the republic. Democracy is such a misunderstood and misused word thrown around. Judges like this are at the very least abhorrent treasonous ignorant scum.
