Pentagon puzzle: What if the nuclear ‘football’ goes missing?
asiatimes.com ^ | July 22, 2021

It controls the greatest nuclear weapons arsenal, in the world — a total of 6,185 nuclear warheads.

From this hand-carried black leather satchel, comes armageddon … the end of everything, as you and I know it.

According to a report by Oriana Pawlyk at Military.com, during the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol, then-Vice President Mike Pence and his Secret Service team were seen on security camera footage fleeing down a flight of stairs as rioters broke into the building.

Also seen, was a military officer holding the backup “Nuclear Football” (the President also has one) accompanied the vice president.

Frighteningly, top officials from US Strategic Command, which oversees the nation’s nuclear weapon stockpile, said they were totally unaware of just how close rioters got to Pence and his security detail.

According to Stacey Plaskett, delegate to the House of Representatives from the US Virgin Islands, the rioters came within 100 feet from where Pence was sheltering in place.

Only by the grace of God, and, perhaps the utter stupidity of the Trump supporters, the football did not fall into the hands of the Capitol Hill attackers.

Could some lunatic fringe Trump supporter have launched a nuclear attack?

Not likely, say experts, because such a person would not have the launch codes.

However, as part of the fallout (pardon the pun) from this tragic day, the Pentagon’s Inspector General is evaluating whether the Defense Department has done adequate planning in the event the emergency satchel known as the Nuclear Football goes missing.

In a letter dated July 19, the IG’s office said it has begun reviewing the existing plans to alert top officials and take action in the event the briefcase is lost, stolen or somehow compromised, the report said. (continues at link)

Considering the assclownish slant to this article, is Asiatimes CCP owned and operated?

I can imagine Biden at one of those rare News Conferences talking to a reporter; “They won’t let me hold on to it”
......Hold on to what, Mr. Biden?
“The Football, the Nuclear Football! My assistants won’t even let me see it, let alone hold on to it. But Jill says I should worry about it, cause she knows where to find it!”

.....Suddenly Jen Psaki runs onstage, blocking the presidents view and shouts :This News Conference is OVER! The President has a scheduling conflict and APOLOGIZES!!”

Wasn’t Clinton separated from the football and his biscuit for several hours at one point in his presidency?

The current nominee for ATF director was alleged to have lost his service weapon. A half dozen other higher profile cases of federal law enforcement officers losing track of their service weapons (leading to death in the case of Kate Steinle), and the Speaker of the House allegedly lost a laptop leading to federal agents raiding the home of an Alaska couple. They won’t punish their own, no matter how bad the f**k up, I don’t believe “the nuclear football” would be any different. Not even so much as a oopsie daisy.

any guess how many rounds Pence’s secret service guards were packing? Not like the “rioters” were going to walk up and take the football

What a dumb, over-the-top article. Secret Service protective details carry fully automatic weapons. If the “rioters” actually tried to seize the nuclear football, Pence’s Secret Service detail would have shot them all to death.

I vaguely remember the story and the MSM suppressed it nicely. I think it was in the book dereliction of duty?

My sister-in-law tells me Trump never gave it up. And she is never wrong - she told me so herself.

“as rioters broke into the building.”

I didn’t see anyone break into the building. They were allowed in or escorted in by the Capital police.

Having the nuclear football in plain sight and raindead Biden in charge is SCARY.

I hope they keep it out of Biden’s reach. He may think it’s a desk phone and start punching in numbers on the keypad.

I know this to be a fact.

Possession of the launch codes is not enough.

One must have access to the MEECN network, and only military personnel have that access. And ONE person is not enough.

This article is criminally stupid. And besides, Biden probably already sold the nuclear football to the CCP.
