Oregon Democrat Rep. Earl Blumenauer said 'space travel isn’t a tax-free holiday for the wealthy'
As Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos launched into space on Tuesday aboard a Blue Origin rocket, and back on Earth, a Democratic lawmaker announced a measure to tax commercial spaceflight.
Oregon Democrat Rep. Earl Blumenauer, who is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, on Tuesday introduced what he is calling the Securing Protections Against Carbon Emissions (SPACE) Tax Act, which would create excise taxes on commercial space flights carrying human passengers for purposes other than scientific research.
"Space travel isn’t a tax free holiday for the wealthy," Blumenauer wrote on Twitter. "We pay taxes on plane tickets. Billionaires flying into space—producing no scientific value—should do the same, and then some."

They are going to have to buy carbon offsets to compensate for the hydrocarbons they are injecting into the atmosphere, just for their entertainment.

I do too. I wish it would be that simple.
In reality look how fast stuff breaks down. Cars. Cruise ships. Airplane models. The upgrades. Then find out the new wonder materials have unforsen problems. The exploding lithium ion packs, either defective cells, degraded cells, or the charging circuitry or software has issues...
I mean the more complex you make things the likelier it is a castastrophic failure is going to occur.
And when most stuff breaks down here, most people dont fix it, they junk it and buy a new one. Up there you may not have a spare, and you cant get a spare.

Yeah i hate Bezos. I use Amazon constantly, and own the stock, and have made a fair return, but boy I hate Bezos.
This is where you miss the point:

Since businesses will necessarily raise their prices to pass the taxes on to their customers, a better view would be:
Business tax = Sales Tax
The only difference is that taxing through the business, a person does not know how much he truly pays in taxes. This is how the swamp keeps growing every year.
If the common man knew just how much he paid in taxes of all forms, there would be a second tea party.

If the government starts taxing space flights, then TSA won’t be far behind. Plan on taking off your shoes to get through spaceport security. And buy water inside the secure area at airport orices, with concession fees added on.
Government exists in taking a cut from every productive action people take.
Yes but a bill of attainder is unconstitutional and since Democrats are not sure the constitution even exists and if it does they ignore it anyway, a bill of attainder is just exactly what they want.
The lesson from Canada is obvious a low corporate tax means a national sales tax and that is directly paid by little folks.
The government in Canada serves the interests of Big Business as I pointed out before by preventing prosecution of Big Business and having a crony relationship with them.
It all takes taxes from someone somewhere unless we choose to get rid of government programs and policies.
