BEIJING, July 20 (Reuters) - China unveiled a maglev train capable of a top speed of 600 kph on Tuesday, state media said.

The maximum speed would make the train, self-developed by China and manufactured in the coastal city of Qingdao, the fastest ground vehicle globally.

Using electro-magnetic force, the maglev train "levitates" above the track with no contact between body and rail.

I wonder who they stole the tech from, they definitely did not dream that up on their own.

Ive used the Shanghai maglev dozens of times. Runs at around 250 mph and gets you to the airport (29 mile trip) in 10 minutes versus a cab drive who likes to watch tv while going 80 mph with the windows open, smoking and weaving in an out of traffic.

If such a thing ever gets built in the USA, you won’t have to travel to China to ride on a train built by the Chicoms.

From the article... (emphasis added)

The railroad administration announced rules in May that said that all companies in the industry must tell it about accidents that caused three deaths or more. Information including investigation results and who was punished and how, should be contained in the report and published on the administration’s website within 20 working days after the report was filed, the rules say. As of January 11, no reports on fatal accidents have appeared on the website’s page.

I know from personal experience how China operates. A team of Chinese engineers visited the outfit where I worked in late 1970’s, and paid good sum of money to buy all the engineering manuals and drawings of our product. Never bought a single product we manufactured.

Yeah, an accident at 600 KM/hour would surely make the news?

Not in China

Heck there was an earthquake in China in the 70s that killed a million people and few even knew about it.

I was impressed how fast my cab ride was from the cruise terminal to airport in Singapore using the underground highway.
It was well lighted and beautiful through the whole ride in the tunnel.

That train is NOT Maglev. The tracks are totally different.

Now thats a hell of a video.

A RR engineer once said that a train is like pulling a tow chain. When it goes around a corner, it wants to go straight.

How quickly does it take to get up to speed after a stop? In the Chicago area, the Metra commute is as long as a car commute because of all the stops. t could go 80 MPH, but never does.

Source please. I am too lazy and too busy to try and hunt the incident up on Google.

Santiago de Compostela derailment in Spain in 2013. The train was suppose to slow to 50 MPH from its normal 136 MPH cruising speed before going into that curve. It was still doing 118 MPH. 79 people were killed and 140 were injured. 3 people walked away without a scratch.

My Guess its in the European continent. The cars going by on that bridge behind are driving on the rights side of the road and not the left, like in Japan and England.

3 people walked away without a scratch.

Either that or the pieces left were too small to identify.
