This coming week, many professional political observers expect to see former Detroit Police Chief, James Craig, enter the Republican primary for governor of Michigan. Some within the state’s GOP establishment are celebrating the news. They shouldn’t because the math actually shows that a Craig nomination would ensure four more years of Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Let’s start with the good news: Governor Whitmer is losing to the generic Republican. The bad news? James Craig underperforms the generic Republican. And that’s before voters learn that he is weak on the Second Amendment; was the enforcer-in-chief of Whitmer’s draconian, unconstitutional lockdowns; and is celebrated by Democrats for his sanctuary city policies.
A public poll released in June shows incumbent Whitmer’s image and job approval declining among Michigan voters, driving an 11-point deficit to a “generic Republican.” The Michigan GOP released a poll through Charlie Leduff within the same week (June 8, 2021) showing James Craig underperforming the generic Republican.

Craig is not weak on the 2nd Amendment.
He has continued to encourage Detroiters to get training and arm themselves.
Craig has been featured on Mark Levin’s show and various Fox programs because of his views of crime and an armed citizenry.
Whoever wrote this hit piece is either completely ignorant about Craig or Detroit or they’re a RINO and don’t want a self thinker as Governor.
In fact as I’m going through this Hit Piece is see complete lies.
A couple of weeks ago Craig gave his first “Political” speech at a GOP event in Jackson County.
He was received with cheers and a standing ovation.
The poll sited is an out right lie.
Craig is sweeping all polls.
I smell a rat. Red flags up. Why would someone write this article and change the facts?
IIRC, he is something of a 2A convert because after serving a few years in Los Angeles or somewhere like that, he was a sheriff in Maine where everybody has guns but there is very little or no violent crime.
He was not a sheriff, but Chief of Police here in Portland, Maine. We started his rise to chief (he was a division commander in the LAPD). He went from here to Cincinnati then to Detroit.
You forgot the sarc tag.
Look there is nothing wrong with a Police Chief telling law abiding citizens to arm and protect themselves. Especially in a major craphole like Detroit.
