There are a few of things that still bother me about electric cars.

1. The experts say there will not be enough electricity generation to accommodate everyone driving, and therefore requiring, electric power to charge everybody's cars.

2. Electricity generation still requires fossil fuels.

3. Batteries require materials that are not abundant in nature. What happen when they are depleted?

4. What happens when your battery goes bad and you have to replace it. How much will that cost? And amortized over the life of the car, how much will that affect the overall value?

5. The nature of getting refueled will completely change. Instead of a quick ten minute stop at the pump to fill the tank, one would require an hour or more to recharge the battery. What about the backup at recharging stations waiting in line for your 1-2 hours charge? The devil's in the details.

6. What happens when the electric grid goes down? What happens in a thunderstorm and the power goes off? Are you and others just stranded at the charging station?

7. What happens to the electric grid when everyone is trying to charge their cars overnight or at the same time? Will there be blackouts or brownouts?

8. How will electricity distribution change? What will the priorities for electric use between cars and residential and commercial usage be?

9. I live and work on a farm. An electric vehicle would be worthless to do heavy duty work that's required.

10. The unintended consequences of a not so well thought out idea by the Marxist Left.

I would have thought the disruptive events that have made national news over the last twenty years -- including 9/11, the massive 2003 blackout in the Northeast, destructive hurricanes, blizzards, wildfires, the infamous Texas cold snap this past spring, etc. -- would make people very, very hesitant about buying a vehicle that is completely useless under many unusual conditions.

I think the biggest flaw with EVs is that they are ideally suited for applications where a golf cart would probably do just fine -- i.e., they don't travel more than a few miles from home, they return to a predictable charging location regularly, and they usually carry a maximum of 3-4 people with almost no cargo weight.

Can’t work your farm? So what? You are probably a Trumpster and therefore deserve your upcoming poverty.

There are no unintended consequences. The Left intends them all.

There are many applications where an electric vehicle can be useful- urban commutes, for example. But even in those cases, there really is no net benefit. Assuming that battery technology is vastly improved, laws of nature are indisputable- fossil fuels carry an energy punch much greater than electric battery power. In order to charge a battery, it takes some other form of energy and there is some loss in the transfer.

You have put down most of the ideas why an electric car is not so practical. I’m sure there are a few more. The big thing when there are a lot of electric cars(may there never be a lot of them) will be the electricity to charge them along with other electrical needs. We are going to have to come up with something a lot different than what we got now. How can anyone put a guarantee on an electric used vehicle not knowing when the battery will play out? I’m thinking there are plenty more problems that just haven’t showed up yet.
