A University of Missouri professor who is leading a study of COVID-19 in wastewater said his lab detected the Delta variant weeks before the first case was reported. The state is currently seeing a surge due to the Delta variant and has just under 50 percent of its adult population fully vaccinated.
“We detected it in the first wastewater facility on May 10, a week later we saw it in four different wastewater treatment facilities and by the third week it was everywhere,” Marc Johnson, study lead, told Fox 2 Now. “It was across the state, all different parts.”
Wastewater surveillance has been used to pinpoint potential COVID-19 clusters in colleges, cities and communities....
He warned that there will likely be more variants to emerge.
The state is currently grappling with highs not previously seen since pandemic peaks, with some hospitals warning that they are in danger of being overrun due to recent surges.
On Tuesday, Gov. Mike Parson said health officials should encourage people to get the vaccine and should not be “trying to force people to take a vaccine or literally just scare them into taking a vaccine because we know that doesn’t work.”

Think about that before wearing a face diaper into a public restroom.
Ach, scheize!
Ja!
Remember the CDC guidance last November that college students home for break ideally should HAVE THEIR OWN BATHROOM?
And all this time out “betters” have been obsessing on masks.
Katz scheize und hinkle drecht!
Joy. Think all those people who use phones in the bathroom and yap, yap. Wash those phones and hands.
I’m of the vintage to have been taught by parents and grandparents that public restrooms are filthy, disease laden places best avoided...and when absolutely necessary, then thorough hand-washing is a must.
Of course I also remember most businesses displaying “enter at your own risk” signs which seem to be making a covid comeback “we can’t guarantee that you won’t be exposed....”
There’s a theory gaining traction that this virus lies dormant in the intestines, and it comes back again when it wants. Serious scientists are positing it.
There’s also a theory that we’ve had herd immunity since last year.....and, that over 40% of us have had it, and....many don’t even know it.
Serious scientists have also posted that.
They probably detected a LOT worse, in that wastewater, than Delta variant.
WASH YOUR HANDS.....w/SOAP......for at least 20 seconds.
It’s been a lifesaver, for a long time.
I buy a 100 pack of alcohol wipes that are used for blood draws. They are about $2.00 per pack and work great for wiping down a phone or keyboard.
lots of aerosolized ‘stuff’ in public bathrooms
And do you really want that “stuff” sticking to your useless face mask for the rest of the day?
It has been identified in our (SE MO) wastewater, but so far no patients have been identified having the Wuhan.
There is also lots of evidence that paper towels are much safer than hand blowers.
Even your pants are better than those
The doctor i saw talking about herd immunity was saying nearly 90% of us have had this.
I think they’re absolutely right. People who have had covid and also those having the vaccines have many GI complaints and it goes on for MONTHS.
Stomach pain, stomach cramps and the dreaded yellow diarrhea that keep rearing it’s ugly head.
This has nothing to do with public restrooms, or mask wearing. What it says is lots of people get the benign COVID variant that has easy spread and very low mortality. Early in the pandemic that's what some freepers said had to happen: lots of spread and mutations. They learned from 1918, 1968-9, etc I didn't get it and I thought it was completely different from flu. I was wrong, they were right.
And now it's an anti-vax thread. How many unvaxxed people have GI complaints? Where is your comparison? Where's your data?
This is info from my own patient data.
And GI complaints is only part of it.
Don’t you just hate the restroom doors you have to pull open to get out?
For your safety please pee and poop on the street now. Seems the SF bunch were ahead of their times.
Also do NOT swim in the sewage disposal plant.
