Amid escalating tensions between Siskiyou County authorities and Hmong marijuana growers, officials have identified the man shot June 28 by authorities during the Lava Fire as a 35-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man.
The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office said the man, who was shot near a roadblock set up to keep residents from entering the fire zone at the Mount Shasta Vista subdivision, was Hawj Soobleej Kaub, a father of three and farmer.

“He was a dirty illegal marijuana grower who was one of many polluting the California countryside. Pull a gun on a sheriff and get shot. Too bad.”
I have read that pot growing requires an inordinate amount of water. If true, where are these illegal pot “farms” getting all that water?
“Hawj Soobleej Kaub, a father of three and farmer.”
Sounds like the founding stock of the country.
They siphon water from tanks, rivers, lakes, divert and grow and send their detritus and pollution downstream. They are terrible polluters. They also hire illegals, or illegals do grows fro cartels and other shady groups. There’s even a Bulgarian syndicate doing grows and cooking meth up in the mountains...dangerous people.
His parents should have been shot for saddling him with such a name...
Soros is smiling.
absolutely ... these illegal pot growers are absolutely destroying the California countryside, with clear-cutting forests and bulldozing the land, resulting in permanent erosion and destruction of the waterways and wanton use of massive amounts of illegal and unlicensed herbicides and pesticides ...
These are Hmong people. Probably got here around the time of the Vietnam War.
Looks like some kind of “water war” going on. People needing permits to bring in water.
It always gets ugly without water.
Watch a water hole dry out in Africa sometime.See what happens to the wildlife.
“with clear-cutting forests and bulldozing the land”
Sounds terrible...sarcasm.
How about letting forests burn up every year because of tree huggers?
That’s one Bond villain I wish would get crossways with a double-nought spy.
“Pull a gun on a sheriff and get shot. Too bad.”
Agreed not a good idea.
I’ll wait till more information come out to form an opinion, since the article provided very little on the shooting.
Bad cops, just gunning down the farmer for no reason.
I work on a contract dozer. One of the fires we went to, one of the listed hazards was the inhabitants.
I stumbled onto an old grow site in the NC mountains years ago. There was at least 300 yards of irrigation tubing running uphill from the site to a spring which provided constant water.
By now it’s second generation Viet hillbillies doing the growing.
“By now it’s second generation Viet hillbillies doing the growing.”
True.
Who knows?
What do think of the Ashley Babbitt shooting?
Good shoot or bad shoot?
I thought that legalization was supposed to put a stop to all of this?
They bootleg it from any available spring or stream, they have been known to draw them down dry!
