#Bidenflation: Cost of Gas, Used Cars Up 45%, Car Rentals 88%

Nearly all Americans expect the inflation under Joe Biden’s presidency will worsen still, even as the cost of gas and used cars is already up by 45 percent, and bacon up by 8.4 percent, the Washington Examiner reported Thursday.

“The hashtag #Bidenflation has been trending recently,” wrote Washington Secrets columnist Paul Bedard, noting a new survey from Skynova, an online invoicing firm that found 88 percent of people in the United States believe the current inflation is “here to stay and will soar more.”

Here are the items really driving up inflation:

Car rental 87.7% (y/y change)
Used cars 45.2%
Gas 45.1%
Laundry machines 29.4%
Airfare 24.6%
Moving 17.3%
Hotels 16.9%
Furniture 8.6%
Bacon 8.4%
TVs 7.6%
Fruit 7.3%
Shoes 6.5%
Fresh fish 6.4%
New cars 5.3%
Milk 5.6%
Rent (OER) 2.3%

“Projections shared with Secrets from the Statista Research Department show it increasing at about 2.5% through 2024 and ‘tapering off’ by 2026,” he observed. “It’s currently at about 5.4%.”

According to the Skynova survey of 1,040 respondents, 78 percent reported signs of inflation in their daily lives and 61 percent said inflation is an important political issue.

Results of the survey are consistent with Tuesday’s report from the Department of Labor that shows the cost for goods and services rose by significantly more than expected in June.

Breitbart News reported:

The Producer Price Index rose 7.3 percent in June from 12 months earlier, the largest demand since 12-month data were first introduced in 2010. Compared with May, the index rose one percent.

I’m going to the District of Corruption with my Dad in mid to late September. He’s 73 and never saw the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier, plus he wants to see the Iwo Jima monument, and the Vietnam wall. I get another trip to Mount Vernon, and we’ll both get to the Archives to see the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, and the Constitution. We both agreed we don’t want to see the vegetable in the White House.

Make sure you have tissues for the inevitable tears when you visit the Wall. Very moving.

Eight of my high school classmates died in Viet Nam. I found all their names on the Wall. How could I not cry?

I’m putting some money into our 2006 Nissan Sentra with 152,000 miles on it, mostly suspension work plus a new windshield. Hoping to keep it going for at least 2-3 years, then we’ll see.

I don’t cry much. I didn’t even cry at my Grandmother’s funeral, and she was like a Mother to me. The last time I can think of that I cried was watching the video of Kate Smith singing God Bless America.

My 16 year old car needs a new torque converter and I can’t afford it.

What's the make, model and engine size?

My daughter had an 18 year old car. It ran great but she’s single and lives a few hours from us. A breakdown would be challenging.

She bought a 2017 Hyundai from a friend at trade in cost just before prices skyrocketed.

She just sold her old car and got about $500 more than I thought she would.

Perfect market timing.

That’s a pretty straightforward remove/replace job for any shop that has a lift and a transmission jack. Auto parts shop refurb units probably go for $150 and up, plus trans fluid and labor. What sort of estimates are you seeing?

Every year I rent an auto for a fall car trip. It usually costs me arund $400. Just checked on what it will cost me in September: $840! Half of that is taxes and various fees.

Wow.

That’s nowhere near what we’re quoted.

Even at $40 an hour labor, it’s in the $800 range.

I don’t even know how I’ll get it to his shop, frankly.

I love this car like mad but it’s slowly killing me.

New motor a year ago, tranny replaced in October and it didn’t even last 8 months until it crapped out, too.

I have no idea how the low mile Charger tranny’s torque went to crap when the Magnum tranny last 221K miles.

I just feel the car is doomed.

:(

Yeah, it's the shop labor that's running up the estimate. The Charger transmission should be an easy swap, the only thing I can think of is that it was damaged or defective beforehand.

This is why my older vehicle has a manual transmission. I can still do clutch replacements myself, fortunately.

*If* I can find a torque converter for it, it’s almost $500.

There’s a local salvage that has a 2008 Charger tranny for $400 but it might as well be four thousand.

We’re living on his retirement, everything here is even more expensive than it was before and I’ve had a lot of vet bills since March and I have nothing left.

So I just cry a lot.
