Mental health professionals will be sent out to respond to some 911 calls in Chicago instead of cops, following defund the police protests and a number of police killings of mentally-unwell people.
The city is launching a two-part 'alternative response' pilot program this fall that takes a more public health approach to responding to 911 calls for mental health emergencies.
The initiatives aim to both ensure people suffering a mental health crisis get the help they need rather than face criminalization and free police up for tackling crime, amid a mass exodus of cops from the force.

What I’ve been hearing locally is that the 9-11 operator will decide who to send. And if the caller forgets to tell the operator that the raging man has a gun....I say no more.
The equivalent of calling the Suicide Hot Line and being put on hold.
Well I know if I were a psychologist and they called me to go take care of a gunfight I’d let them know that I was on a vacation day.

Lets say a Mental Health Professional gets sent out there and the person is armed and or highly violent, then what? you could not pay me enough to do that $hit.
I suspect the 911 callers will only report the crime. The police will respond first and then will have to call in the mental health specialists.
Anyone who would go on a 911 call in Chicago in place of a cop is deficient in mental health.
There will soon be a popcorn shortage.
I hope they issue them body armor when they are standing in the middle of a gun fight between rival gangs and urging calm
Sending in the mental health workers in body armor and a glock-19.
I hope they show up with butched up blue or green hair to fully try out their professional beliefs on the angry folk. Might be a gender transitional issue at play is all. Gang members are misunderstood saints that need hugs.
This will, of course, get people killed. The Marxists will then, of course, blame the deaths on law-abiding citizens having guns. This is all very predictable.
The see no evil, hear no evil approach to crime. Send less police, there will be less resisting of arrest and less jailing of people.
So, helping criminals at the expense of the safety of the populace. I’m sorry Chicago but I’m afraid this is going to make law abiding citizens less safe.

I’m not sure how mentally healthy these supposed mental health professionals are, going into seriously dangerous situations unarmed. Basically, they are cannon fodder for liberals.
Their supervisors can go home at night knowing that they have Done Some Good.
Almost 97% of the American Psychological Association (APA)members are liberals. Well over 80% are white.
That means this is a shoot-out between white liberal ‘elites’ and black thugs...
