Texas House votes to ARREST runaway Democrats for blocking voting rights bill: State Dems sing outside the Capitol and insist they are willing to go to jail after fleeing on private jets

Republicans in the Texas State House voted 76-4 on Tuesday to arrest the runaway Democrats who fled to Washington D.C. to break the quorum and block the passage of Governor Greg Abbott's voting rights bills.

'Members, a sergeant-at-arms and any officer appointed by him are directed to send for all absentees whose attendance is not excused for the purpose of securing and maintaining their attendance under warrant of arrest if necessary,' Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan announced from the State House floor.

Texas House rules allow the sergeant-at-arms to arrest members who are not present at the Capitol for a vote – and the show of disapproval Tuesday could result in the lawmakers' arrest when they land back in the Lone Star State.

The Tuesday, however, vote doesn't hold much weight as long as the Democrats remain in Washington since by crossing state lines they have escaped jurisdiction of Texas law enforcement.

The group maintains that they aren't afraid of Governor Abbott's threats to arrest them for fleeing the state to break a quorum and avoid voting on Republicans ' election legislation.

the House Democratic Caucus paid for it. Then they all boarded and posted pictures of themselves smiling and having fun.

Who is paying for the $350/night hotel rooms and do they know they need to receive tax forms for that?

They were singing We Shall Overcome. What an insult to the civil rights movement.

I’m surprised they make that much. It’s intended to be set up as a citizen legislature, where members have real jobs and businesses back home. The Texas house is only supposed to meet I believe once every two years, except in emergencies. Otherwise back to the farm, ranch, or whatever.

insist they are willing to go to jail after fleeing on private jets

They should arrest them and then tell them the charges are imposing a massive carbon footprint with their private jets, hastening the death of the planet by five years. Then watch them melt down.

I get your joke, but humans have nothing to do with nor can they have anything to do with any climate change. It does it all on it’s own.

Do we know who paid for the private jets and hotel rooms for the runaway Texas Democrats? I've read the articles, but nobody has reported on how the fleeing House Democrats are paying for this stunt.

According to the Texas State Constitution:

Article 16 Section 41:

Sec. 41. BRIBERY AND SOLICITATION OR ACCEPTANCE OF BRIBES. Any person who shall, directly or indirectly, offer, give, or promise, any money or thing of value, testimonial, privilege or personal advantage, to any executive or judicial officer or member of the Legislature to influence him in the performance of any of his public or official duties, shall be guilty of bribery, and be punished in such manner as shall be provided by law. And any member of the Legislature or executive or judicial officer who shall solicit, demand or receive, or consent to receive, directly or indirectly, for himself, or for another, from any company, corporation or person, any money, appointment, employment, testimonial, reward, thing of value or employment, or of personal advantage or promise thereof, for his vote or official influence, or for withholding the same, or with any understanding, expressed or implied, that his vote or official action shall be in any way influenced thereby, or who shall solicit, demand and receive any such money or other advantage matter or thing aforesaid for another, as the consideration of his vote or official influence, in consideration of the payment or promise of such money, advantage, matter or thing to another, shall be held guilty of bribery, within the meaning of the Constitution, and shall incur the disabilities provided for said offenses, with a forfeiture of the office they may hold, and such other additional punishment as is or shall be provided by law.
Find out who's bankrolling this and then declare that the fleeing Democrats took a bribe under the Texas Constitution. Then expel them and call for new elections to fill the vacancies.

Throw them in prison. Then hold new elections for new reps in their districts. The public will try again to find people who will actually represent them within the bounds of constitutional governance. Hopefully at least new reps who will honor their oaths of office and the constitution! Hopefully.

- how many are needed for a quorum -

There are 150 seats in the House, and 2/3, or 100 are needed for a quorum. The House has 83 Republicans and 67 Democrats, and at least 51 Dems bailed out.

Like young kids running away from home, they have to come home. They all live in Texas.

Are they going to remain in DC for the rest of their lives?

That would be a big win for Texas if the Democrat trash never return.

They foolishly think it’s a power play but it really demonstrates they are POWERLESS and PATHETIC.

If they remain in DC indefinitely, they will soon be forgotten by everyone.

- If possible and if necessary put a lien on that salary to pay these costs. -

From what I'm hearing the state is not paying for any of this. They're using their own / private funds for it... (probably have a Gofundme account set up too). ;-)

I know. That’s why I suggested that the state if it can put a lien on their 10K salary for this stunt.

It’s the taxpayer’s money why should it be paid out for these clowns not doing their job.

Insurrection Law and Legal Definition

Insurrection refers to an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government. It is a violent revolt against an oppressive authority. Insurrection is different from riots and offenses connected with mob violence. In insurrection there is an organized and armed uprising against authority or operations of government whereas riots and offenses connected with mob violence are simply unlawful acts in disturbance of the peace which do not threaten the stability of the government or the existence of political society.

The following is a case law defining Insurrection:

Insurrection means “a violent uprising by a group or movement acting for the specific purpose of overthrowing the constituted government and seizing its powers. An insurrection occurs where a movement acts to overthrow the constituted government and to take possession of its inherent powers.” [Younis Bros. & Co. v. Cigna Worldwide Ins. Co., 899 F. Supp. 1385, 1392-1393 (E.D. Pa. 1995)]

Make it “Dead or Alive” like in the old days, ad there are individuals that would have em stacked up like cordwood outside the courthouse to collect the bounty.

Most of those democrats don’t live on or run a farm or ranch-they are business owners in cities-lots of lawyers, too-they have no idea what the folks out here in rural Texas think, want, etc-nor do they care-most of the people that vote for them are city-and-suburb dwellers who are democrats...

I hope they enjoy that beer they took with them-that alone shows that this is just an excuse to show us their collective ass and go party in DC...
