Governors' races see flood of pro-Trump candidates

Pro-Trump candidates are racing to launch gubernatorial campaigns across the country, posing a test for the former president’s political brand in a number of key states going into 2022.

Over the July 4 holiday weekend, former GOP Chairman Allen West became the second primary challenger against Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R), while Republican Geoff Diehl announced he was running for governor in Massachusetts, potentially sparking a challenge against Gov. Charlie Baker (R), who has yet to announce whether he is running for another term.

Meanwhile, in Maine, former Gov. Paul LePage (R) formally announced his campaign for a third term as governor, while Republican Dan Cox jumped into the gubernatorial race in Maryland.

These candidates join a growing list of Republicans with their sights set on the governors' mansions in Ohio and Georgia.

“You’re going to see situations where people are trying to out-Trump each other,” said Republican strategist Doug Heye. “Ultimately, these candidates are making a bet, and the bet is Trump is powerful enough for them to be a vehicle to move into the governor’s mansion.”

But operatives note that the incumbents and candidates running face very different challenges in uniquely different states.

“These are statewide races, and they are specifically for state governments, so the issues are just a little different,” said one Republican operative.

Why do I smell “bandwagon”.

RINOs took advantage of the Tea Party, Marco Rubio being one of the bigger beneficiaries (but not his constituents).

In order to get a job as a ‘Republican strategist’ do you have to prove that you’re a moron?

Maryland is a possible GOP win but we need a real conservative not a Korean purchase order Governor.

Newt had his contract with America. It was great.

What if Candidates campaigned on anti corruption while in office. Insider deals for friends and family. Pay backs for donors all above board.

Hey! Here’s my net worth before taking office.

Yeah, OK, I’m going to get an insane retirement package after being a legislator but here’s what I’m going to push after I’m elected....something other legislators won’t be happy about.

“Pro-Trump candidates?” What does that even mean? Maybe they’re pro-liberty, or they support certain policies, but that phrase is senseless.

How many Democrat governors are “pro-Biden?” How many are “pro-Manchin?” How many, exactly?

Well today we learned that RNC counsel Reimer is a moron, so yeah, it seems to be a RINO job qualification. Proving you are a loser is another hoop you have to jump through.

The Maryland RINO Governor is term limited. There are something like nine democrats lined up and will hopefully burn themselves out in the primary.

The moron RINO threatened to to arrest a state delegate if he dared leave his house to address an anti-lockdown crowd during lockdown. He stayed home and prepared a Federal lawsuit against the RINO. He’s a Trumper and serious Constitutionalist.

RINO has a handpicked candidate but he’s really burned his bridges. I look forward to voting for Dan Cox

Can’t a RINO just get someone to buy him a drink at his favorite watering hole without guys like you [and me] getting on his case? It’s not like he agreed to take his job with any expectation he was actually going to have to work.

RINOs with bad cases of TDS need to seek treatment.

I think you are right. Gut feeling is the 2020 elections will be huge and wide spread.
