Communists are pathological liars. Commie countries get away with using the craven western Press to carry their propaganda. China’s military is far more hollow than it appears. And it’s economy too. It’s officers and especially Generals are chosen first for loyalty to Xi and the CCP. Just like in Stalinist Russia, the military looks powerful. But look what fits tiny Finland delivered to the Greeeeeat Russia. Stalin had purged the Red Army of any competent officers. China is in a similar boat. China’s political Army got its butt handed to it by the Vietnamese some years ago.

The US military needs China to be a dangerous enemy. If there wasn’t China they would invent something else. In fact, the rise of China is probably the reason the US under Biden has pulled out of Afghanistan. As an enemy with a domestic hi-tech arms market China is a much preferred adversary for the US military and Arms manufacturers. Ever growing budgets are assured for the foreseeable future.

There are several documentaries made during that time and the troops are called “mountain troops” by the Chinese narrator who was present during the slaughter, and the troops are shown being given propaganda - the voice over explains just what these materials were and why they were necessary. The main reason is the local troops refused to fire on the students and these new troops had to be convinced that the local troops were part of the terrorist uprising and must be killed.

Perhaps these video have been scrubbed by youtube - I DL’ed them. Most modern troops are at least literate to some degree and do understand what is going on, unlike the mountain troops which lived in isolation away from cities and towns.

Control now is going to be even more top down than before as Xi made clear. Likely the old CCP member will be purged and a new on installed.

I imagine that recruits come from the countryside today where a life in the military is a good escape from the rural poverty. I have no idea of their education levels - the videos did make the point that these troops were specifically brought in from a distant province that had little contact with ordinary military or ordinary people.

The chinese communist party has been in charge of China for just about exactly 70 years. It's been my observation that history moves in a cycle of crises every 70-80 years. For example the American revolution ended in 1789. 70 years later in 1860 the American Civil War started. ~70 years after that in 1929 we had the great depression followed by WW2. 70 years after WW2 ended in 1945 takes us to 2017 and the rise of the criminal deep state dedicated to one-party rule, our current crisis. You can see a similar pattern elsewhere. I called it the 70 year itch. A freeper I noted this to pointed out that this theory has been written about in a book called "The Fourth Turning" except they say it's an 80 year cycle. Fine. Close enough.

So why mention this? Like I said, the CCP has been running the show there for 70 years. Three generations, basically. This is when a crisis comes that either collapses them (and they start over) or they emerge stronger than ever.

Could be BS on my part, but the timing works out at least.

Also note that the Soviet Union was established in 1917. 70ish years as a super power and they suddenly collapsed completely and the cold war ended circa 1989/1990. Call their run 73 years. Close enough.

If I were Japan or SK, I would not give a squirt of pi$$ for such assurances. Obama tried the same trick with Israel in his second term, but they were smart enough not to give up their nuclear deterrence.

And, frankly, I am not even sure the current US leadership would retaliate on our behalf, especially if a Commie country launched the attack.
