Illinois preemption law grandfathered in Chicago's preexisting laws, so ARs and laser sights are illegal in Chicago.

The United States Constitution did not grandfather in Chicago’s illegal restrictions. The possession charges are garbage and deserve to be tossed.
That said, I’m curious about why they were (allegedly) left out and sitting by a window. Maybe totally innocent, maybe not. If they have actual evidence this guy was planning an attack, then I’m glad it was stopped. If they don’t have evidence an attack was about to happen, they should be returning his firearms and apologizing to him immediately. Somebody get Alan Gura on the phone so he can slap Chicago around in court again.
Probably mistook red dot for laser. Idiots. News said he didn’t have an FOID but he didn’t need one because he’s not a resident. If it is an AR type then law is very unclear. Not illegal in illannoy but Cook County/Chicago have statutes. Never really enforced ...if not involved in crime ...and no penalty except possibly confiscation. This guy will most likely skate. Much ado about nothing. F Chicago.
So? IIRC, there is a federal preemption law protects folks who are travelling with firearm from unconstitutional restrictions.
